Your Welcome! But before you start selling off your equipment you might want to check with a fellow model rail and see if your units can be converted to DCC. Seems to me there is somebody near you who participates here...who can help. Glad to have you on board.
Hey BarstowRick! That sounds good! Would you happen to know what the average cost of a DC to DCC Converson? Robert
Robert, I haven't followed my own advise and switched over to DCC. So, I'm not in the know. PowerSteamGuy/Bob and others here can answer that question better then I. My plans are to make the switch and by then my research will be complete. Sorry, I can't help this time. I've heard it's minimal. I'm sure someone will come to your aid. You can always check with your local hobby shop. Just make sure you are talking to a model rail and not someone stuck behind the counter with orders to sell, sell, sell.
Caboose, Each loco will be different. Take your locos in with you to the local hobby shop and see if they can help. If not... determine the make and model and see if someone can help. Steve at Ulrich has helped me with loco selection: http://www.ulrichmodels.biz/servlet/StoreFront He might be able to tell you which DCC decoders might work in which locos... and difficulty involved. If you do ask him for help, it would be nice if you purchased the decoders from him. You mentioned a youtube link that helped you with DCC. Mind posting the link so I could take a look? I haven't perused Youtube very much.
Youtube Heres a link that helped me out a little. http://www.youtube.com/my_subscriptions?pi=0&ps=20&sf=added&sa=0&sq=&dm=2&s=XsaOfME8r6I they are short videos and are in about 15-16 parts I beleve. there are some other videos there also. Well, the too loco's I do know what make they are. I have a CN thats made by Walthers whice is a Diesel. I also have a Bachmann CP Steam. I will post pictures of them, but when taking them appart it doesnt look like there is alot of room to work with. Robert. WALTHERS:
Bachmann: If you could help me identify the models of these trains that would be good. And I dont think there would really be alot of room to place the DCC boards inside of them, or would there be? thanks, Robert
Thanks, I had a little trouble accessing the videos. It seems I had to sign in to access the link you sent. For others out there, the author of the videos is "ay76". These are very "basic" beginner DCC videos. Reading the first few pages of the manual with your DCC system will familiarize you with the material here. I will say I love the engine sound of his loco there. I believe searching for videos posted by that user will let you access them without signing in.
Well..! Well, I have offically decided that Im going with DCC! I was looking at the Bachmann DCC EZ Command, seeing how it is in my budget, and its main marketing idea is to get new comers to DCC up and running in no time! So I dont know, does anyone here reccomend it for me, being a new comer to DCC? I will only be running 3-5 loco's anyways, and I beleve it can handle up to 10? So far from what I have read its a good bang for your buck. What do you guys think? Thanks, Robert
Thanks! Well sounds good! I have to thank everyone for there help and imput, and it was really nice. I will be mostly lurking the forums for now. Once again, thanks all you guys, and thanks for making me feel welcomed. :tb-biggrin: Cheers, Robert
Before you buy the bachmann, do some research. Read some forums. Perhaps do a search for EZ command vs zephyr or something like that. Take a look here: http://forum.atlasrr.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=48015
