I love the IM covered hoppers as many of you all do. Like N&W stated they are putting out some fine N&W models and for me a good run of 4750 SOU then the 2 bay hopper. The theme of my layout is only 3 industries and none were to be large users of bulk covered hoppers. That all changed after I purchased just a couple of IM hoppers. IM's other rolling stock is to old from my era. Now if IM added that beautiful modern 50' boxcar they produce in HO I would really be in trouble !! Maybe a greenville Gondola would be a nice model to. Take Care, Mike
IM is aweful. I have a whole string of older mold Red caboose covered hoppers, then I buy just one IM repaint from yesteryearmodels ( I'm pretty sure that's who sold it to me) and now all my RC cars look kind of sloppy. Don't do it stay, away from those see through roofwalks and nice printing. lol I gotta admit I like the IM's too.
Ahhh... thanks! Now I have a question. Would the IM 12-panel 40' boxcar be a good enoug approximation for the black SP Overnight express boxcars?
Ed- Did you have any luck figuring out those adaptors? If not, let me know. I'll try to sketch up something for you. The pictures in that RMJ article are so dark, I doubt they'd be useful. Boxcab E50
box, trying to order back issue of RMJ. not having much luck I would really appreciate any help thanks
For magazine back issues, if unavailable from the publisher, here is a possibility. This is probably the largest source on the web: Railpub Boxcab E50
William: They look like 10 panel cars: http://www.steamfreightcars.com/gallery/boxauto/sp-b-50-24main.html I guess the degree of accuracy is up to you. The door looks pretty narrow like the IM car to me. Hope this helps. [edit] This looks like the 10 panel IM car which was painted into the Overnight cars, I believe. http://www.steamfreightcars.com/gallery/boxauto/sp38311main.html
