Jeanne and I should be divorced by Sept. 6.

This is not what I wanted to happen, but it will happen. It's costing me nearly all of my retirement, but that is NM law, and I'd rather have it happen now than fight a fruitless battle in years forward.

I am at peace with the whole process. I am looking forward to my new life. It has become a truly mutual decision.

All of this was a stunner for me. Jeanne came back, after the death of her oldest sister in October 2007, a completely different person. There was no changing her perspective, no matter what I did. So, our relationship was gone.

My work is an increasing challenge, as its fruits are debated at higher and higher (and also lower and lower) levels. There are always casualties in these debates. For me, it's been there done that. It's nearly impossible to explain to someone not on the inside.

Through this all, I've had my ups and downs. You guys have to serve as my uppers, OK?

Hang in there Pete. I know what you mean about the work aspect, as a former member of the skunk works. :tb-sad:

Sounds like you're maintaining a positive attitude, at least that's what seems to come through your posts. Hang in there. Post when you can.

    Best regards

Roger, got that. ;) It was fun getting together in Louisville and sharing a few brews an putting away some Mexican food. Would be fun to be able to do that again to help you decompress a little. Hey, right now you are just next door to Flash, Bob and I, state wise that is. Well, about 750 miles as the crow flies for me. Probably more like 800 as the tires roll. If you move back to Massachusetts it will be a lot farther away. So, I guess face time is out for now and it will have to be hanging out on the internet for the immediate future . Hang in there Pete. The good times will roll again somewhere down the road.

    Hey,
I'm sorry to hear about this. I must say,it really moved fast, almost to fast. Things WILL work out for you. Remember, when God closes a door,a window opens. Although,in my case,He slammed the window on my head:tb-hissyfit:. So take my advise, get out of the way.:tb-wink:
Or in other words, don't get stressed out. Stay as calm as possible.

Sorry this outcome seems to be what you'd wished to avoid. :( That it's not going to be a long, drawn out process, I hope is somehow helpful. Wish there were words which would ease you through these coming weeks.

Sad to hear, Pete, as she makes nice model railroad scenery! Seriously, I know all about the work issues. The USAF has been hammered constantly since the Minot incident.
We'll be here for you when you need it. Stay cool, and I'll be praying for you!

Yes, I'm getting hammered at work. I keep telling myself it's all for the good of the country. And it's not me at all. It's just that everyone is jumping on the same bandwagon. So we are having food fights. I'll survive. I really don't care who drives the bandwagon, as long as it's being driven.

I bought the house today from Jeanne. That's not earth-shaking news by any means, although it involved a large transfer of assets. I don't have much time to make those back up at my age. That's why I'm just OK tonight.

Your in better shape than you think. A good friend is going thru the same thing. He just found out he lost his house to her, part of his retirement & has to pay her $25,000.00 a year in alimony. He's 5 years younger then you.
When I was going thru it & after my accident, model RRing helpped greatly. Along with golf. Stay busy,it really helps.

Hang in there my friend! At least you got a nice place to sleep, and the layout won't have to be moved. :)
The process really did move fast! My first divorce lasted 2 1/2yr misurable years.
Feel free to vent on us any time.

Doing OK, although I can't wait for Sept. 6. I'm putting away a lot of money now, so I should be OK in six years or so. Besides paying her off, I'm also taking some money just for me, to refurnish the house and launch some projects. The barn starts going up on Sept. 7! Or maybe the 14th . . .

I've been writing a few articles on bridges and ships in N scale. Watch for them in the months ahead.

I have a list of about 1,000 things that need to be addressed, things like canceling credit cards, transferring insurances, changing checking accounts . . . I guess I'd better get busy.

Anyone know a bright, tall, SLIM 60-ish lady that you'd like to introduce to me? Sorry, got to be slim, as I've tired of the short, dumpy and non-athletic. In this whole episode, I've dropped about 30 pounds, down to 204 now, and still dropping, hopefully to a goal of 195, maybe 185. After two marriages, I'm just tired of short women who don't take care of themselves.

    That's my vent for tonight.

Legal proceedings can be long and drawn-out, or short. We've decided to make this short, as NM divorces can be settled in days. I now want this divorce more than her, so the total legal fees will be about $1000. Why spend days at $3000/day of legal fees? No one will win here, except the lawyers, and the lawyers will charge me, as the wife always wins.

I'm OK, just looking for the next wife. That may be stupid on my part. I have prospects from 28 years ago that I'm now courting. That may sound gross to some, but the world is smaller than any of us think.

    Stay tuned . . .

    Pete

Life is a series of choices. Fight or compromise, settle or take it to the mat. Fat, short, tall, thin, whatever. You puts your money down on the pass line and see what roll comes up. This is not a flippant response, but one learned through life.

Either you roll with the punches, accept what is happening or it will eat you up alive.

    Mark,

Not flippant at all, my friend!

I've been preaching to my daughters that you make the best decision you can when you make it, and then you live with it and, if it's wrong, then you take actions to correct it.

There have been no stumbling blocks on this path. While I can get a little wild about it at times, I'm at peace with the path.

Still doing fine. I transferred the other half of my assets to her today. Ouch! I'm a lot pissy about it because she could have made money all these years, but chose instead the volunteer route, the socially responsible route. And she'll inherit a ton of money soon. I'll be over it on Sunday.

Oh well, you take your lumps and move on. I haven't been very active here lately; there's just so much to take care of. I'll be off next week--I'm not sure where yet, just out of here. Maybe Colorado Springs. I'm in good shape--204 pounds this morning, down 32 pounds since last October. Only one person at work has even noticed--that's what happens when you are a big-framed guy.

Work is hell--DOE audit of my program. That's just customary, but it puts people here in a panic up and down the line. I don't give a holy crap about up the line; down the line, people fret. Yeah, I'm 1.002% over budget. My attitude now doesn't help. I told the auditing team that I wanted to be at least 10% by now. They blanched. That was fun! One percent is "sweeping up" money. And a big contract is coming in by Sept 12, which is the end of accounting for the Federal fiscal year, which we follow. When it comes in--and it will--I'll be underspent on the program, and that's worse that being overspent! So I'll get hit again: didn't meet funding commitments for FY 2008!

If it weren't for this divorce, I'd be rolling in the aisles with laughter. I could go on and on about the auditing team, and maybe I will in a humorous novel.

Enough of a vent for now. I'm playing hookey from work today, just to get my mind straight. The marriage is over this Saturday.

Over budget makes them unhappy. But under budget is not right either. Yikes. :(

Sadly yes, when you work on major government projects and you say the project will take $1.2B then that's what you are to spend to get the work done. It's sadly funny that when you find a better solution that would cost less and/or cut down on the amount of software you need to write you actually mess things up. The assumption is that your up front research was so accurate that once you start building your widget everything should go exactly to plan. Any variance has to be justified to the schedule gods and bean counters down to a rat’s you know what…
