Looks good... I would have to make that tank mod to do SD38s. At least I know it can work. And boy would I like some of those Loco brand windows too. Dave D. yeah not a bad project but it should have been my desert storm project ------------------ http://users.bigpond.net.au/railroad2000
Thanks guys! Dave, *IF* you find the all-weather windows let me know, please. On the other hand, have you used the JnJ versions? Patrick, Yes, it's the CP950 in action again. Handy thing these digitals for quick page creation. Paul, I can't, in all honesty, do a Dessert (sic) Storm unit with the current SD40-2's. Unless you wish to supply a SD40-2 snoot plus a suitable body for the nose (say an Atlas GP40-2) so I can do a correct phase IIC(?) unit with corrugated grills. I wonder how a full-body decal will work? btw, does the snoot have corrugated or 'chicken wire' grills?? Gary. ------------------ Gary A. Rose The Unofficial TC&W page N to the Nth degree!

Gary... The guy from JnJ sent me a photo of his window. It comes as a just a flat etched piece that has to be bent into shape. For all I know it might be fine once finished, but I just didn't see myself using it. Nothing against JnJ though, he seems to be making a good effort these days. Dave D. Thanks, Dave. I was under the impression it was a flat, etched detail that required folding to shape. That I have no problems with. It's what it looks like - I've never seen one. May I have a copy of that photo, please? The guy who was doing most of the work for the original owner of JnJ now owns it. Troy something. Apparently, he is mending the wrong done to the business by the preious owner, albeit slowly. Gary.
Gary... Unfortunately I deleted it sometime ago. I'm sure he would send you one if you e-mail him though. Dave D. HI guys, First of all, GATS, nice work!!! Second of all, I am coming out with the all weather windows soon and infact the molds are done. I am in the process of looking for a good clear resin and have experimented with some but nothing has come out good so far. Anyone know of a clear resin out there that cures fast and clear? I was talking to a lady at a train show who is the co-owner of a glue company that is in the dental industry and she said that she has a friend that makes surf boards and they use a clear resin for the final coat so I guess I need to talk to him. Thanks ------------------ Craig Martyn Best Looking Models Around Custom detailing AND N scale detail parts. http://users4.50megs.com/blma/
Thanks, Craig. Ok, you have my attention. I'm not so interested in clear resin castings as it doesn't make much difference if there are 'glass' or not to me. I don't mind using Microscale's Kristal Klear. What I am interested in is the 'correctness' and 'fineness' of the casting. I really likes the old Loco-Motives part. Also, if these do turn out to your satisfaction, would you consider doing the less common 3-window version? When you can, I'd also like to see some photos of the detail parts you are making at present. Gary. ------------------ Gary A. Rose The Unofficial TC&W page N to the Nth degree!
Thanks Gary, I sent photos to Ed (webmaster of my site) of some of the things that are out. I will take more pictures soon but the digital camera I was using is my Mom's so I have to get that back (very soon). And yes I would most likely do a three window type. I'm gonna have to make it in clear resin because if it were only the "skeleton" of it, it would be very brittle. Keep watching http://users4.50megs.com/blma/ for the latest items and pictures. I am now up to 21 detail parts. Thanks guys. ------------------ Craig Martyn Best Looking Models Around Custom detailing AND N scale detail parts. http://users4.50megs.com/blma/
Modifying a Kato does not require guts but skill! ------------------ Theres no such thing as having to many coal hoppers or GP40-2 when you model Chessie System LONG LIVE THE KITTEN!!! LONG LIVE BIG BLUE!!! I looked at DCC... and stayed DC!

quote:
Originally posted by Chessie_SD50_8563: Modifying a Kato does not require guts but skill!

Thanks! On the contrary, guts are needed as well. It's an AU$160+ locomotive (I didn't pay that much ) with an almost improbable chance of getting spare frame halves for it. But all worked well. There is plenty of scope in the Kato frame for doing this type of mod. Modifying a Life-Like frame to fit an Atlas GP7/9 tank was a bit more hair-raising, though. Gary. ------------------ Gary A. Any more news on this one Gary? Thanks....look forward to seeing whats up with this one. ------------------ Craig Martyn Best Looking Models Around Custom detailing AND N scale detail parts. BLMA N Scale Detail Parts BLMAinfo@aol.com
Not as yet, Craig. I stalled during the Olympics. I need to go back and get a few new photos with the digital before continuing. These are required for the article. Essentially, a little more work on the tank and it's just about ready for painting. Gary.
Thanks for the update Gary! Keep us updated! Thanks! ------------------ Craig Martyn Best Looking Models Around Custom detailing AND N scale detail parts. BLMA N Scale Detail Parts BLMAinfo@aol.com
Good news! These are just about done. Well, one is - I'm out of the SOO decal for the flanks on one. Other than that they are ready to rock. Here's the can for 764 - More photos will follow in a few days (along with a couple of SD60's). Gary.
