These are the only GE C30-7's I have left so thought I would dress them up just a bit. These are some inexpensive Atlas shells I got and put on Athearn BB drives. Made some light kits installed lights in the ditch lights too. For a while BN had these at higher horsepower ratings the 5529 was a C33-7 and the 5047 was a C36-7. The Red # bds help identify them as well, although that was not on all HP mods. Also used different colored #bds to signify different oils being tested in units as well. Saw many of these come across the pit in Alliance NE. Dont think they made many trips without 100+ coal cars behind them. At idle I always thought they sounded like those big commercial dryers in a laundry mat LOL.

Will you be keeping this as a patched unit? Or repainting it completely, at a later date?
Will probably stay like this for quite a while, as I have plenty of other jobs around the layout. Anyway, I quite like it!

Anyhow, this was the first "completed" CC&CI unit. This represents the short-lived 1968 scheme with the larger lettering on the long hood, 2061 was new in 1968. Some repaints also received this scheme such as GP7 #1889 and SD45 #4503.
Still struggling with light/focus balance a little bit. I know a tripod would help, but its a pain to deal with in the narrow aisle space.

Well as you all know, I am kinda partial to the QA&P and continue to model it like it never went away, and still operates here as a part of the Frisco system.
I had thought of building a Bicentennial for the QA&P, and I cant lie, the article in RMC about that bicentennial loco it kinds spurred me to the get the thing done. Only issue I was having was, how to paint it as far as what colors where. Most of the Locomotives in this motif, I thought had way to much of one color, and the graphic too busy. So I decided to just paint the lower 2/3 of the loco in the traditional Frisco O/W practice, and simply put the Blue (MM Blue Angels Blue) on top where the Red/Orange would have gone and modify the top of the cab paint a little. As we are losing or lost what I considered great paints like Scalecoat and Floquil I decided to just use readily available paints from Model Masters, Guards Red, White, Blue Angels Blue, and Black. Made some decals up and used a few from other sources to get a good feel of the desired effect.
The Locomotive is a standard Athearn Blue Box loco with My kinda standard detail package. Filled in the holes in the anti climbers, drilled holes in the top, bent my own end handrails from brass wire, for a more prototypical look. I don't mind the metal handrails, yea they are big and clunky looking, but you can pick the loco up with them and not hurt the things.
Turned the rear truck bearing plates around so the rear truck actually runs backwards (which required frame milling) so the gear tower doesn't show up too much in the tunnel part of the shell. Anyway a bunch of work for a loco that never existed. Went all out on the lighting package too all the ground/step lights work as well as the strato-beacon, headlights and ditch lights too. The Caboose is an Athearn that was bumped from Frisco service by acquisition of a brass Bicentennial caboose, so naturally it went to the QA&P. It rides on IM trucks with a journal box lid glued over the roller bearing casting giving a little more correct look, with some QA&P decals.

Tom- Just curious here, wondering in reality what diesel power the QA&P used? Was it borrowed from Frisco? Or did they have their own?

Hi Boxcab this is what I copied from Wikipedia, and a little more info than you probly wanted to know.
In the early days the Acme Red River and Northern, (little more than a switching operation) had its own small switch power, and the QA&P did have its own power for a couple years then and it was all Frisco, although many Steam locos and 3 GP7's were lettered for the QA&P, after 1911 or thereabouts, they were owned by the Frisco.
My Grandfather started for the QA&P as a carman in the mid to late 1930's, then into engine service by the early 1940's and retired in 1975-6. He completely ruined my on railroading at a very early age, he took me on several rides, sat me on his lap while we switched the yard at Quanah, they had to drag my off that old GP7 kicking and screaming LOL. I was born and raised till 12-13 at Swearingen on a Dairy farm. That is my connection to this little 113 mile bridge-line RR between the Frisco and the ATSF. I model it like the RR did make the Westward expansion and never went out of business.
On May 3, 1902 the line was incorporated as the Acme, Red River and Northern Railway. The founders' original, never-realized plans were to extend the line 500 miles (800 km) from the Red River to El Paso, Texas.
On January 28, 1909 the railroad assumed the name of the Quanah, Acme and Pacific. One of the largest shareholders was Harry Koch.
In 1911 the St. Louis-San Francisco Railway assumed control of the QA&P.
In 1913 the eight-mile long Motley County Railroad was chartered with money from more than ninety investors. It ran through unfenced ranch lands in Motley County before joining the QA&P at Roaring Springs. This track continued to operate until 1936.
Freight stops on the QA&P were in Red River, Carnes, Quanah, Acme, Lazare, Swearingen, Paducah, Narcisso, Summit (Motley County), Russellville, Roaring Springs, MacBain, Dougherty, Boothe Spur, and Floydada.
On June 8, 1981 the QA&P was merged by owner Burlington Northern Railroad, which had merged the QA&P's corporate parent, the St. Louis-San Francisco Railway, on November 21, 1980.
