By the time I got on many of these were parked along with a lot of the Dash 8s. The hiring wave that swept me into BNSF's employ also created a need for more power and eventually the Dash 8s and these 75Ms came back. Neither seemed to have survived storage well. Most of my experiences with them have involved some kind of failure that led to a shutdown either while I was on it or before I got there. Unlike the 70MACs I was not sad to see these go.

But they do make a beautiful prototype and model, I'll give you that! Fine job on this one, Tom.

Here's one I finished last year. I always wanted one of the weird consists I'd see pass by my house with two road switchers and a little switch engine between them. This was the second of three locomotives built for just such a consist. I started with the Atlas HO scale model:

Well, I was reminiscing about the glory days of the Rio Grande. Reading Last of the Breed, and thought I would take a photo of eight of my EMD SD40T-2s.

Must be good having a bunch of the same locomotive. It is far more prototypical but I only ever had one of each type.

Awesome Paul! Here are most of my SD40T-2's as of last spring. I've decided to sell of 5362 & 5371 as they are set up as post 1985 units and I've decided to model caboose era. I've replaced them with some of the recent run Athearn tunnel motors from the first order that were purchased in 1974 by the D&RGW:

Will have to post later from home - at work photobucket is blocked and Android isn't emailing me the right links.

Here are the photo's of most of my D&RGW SD40T-2's. Since then I decided to sell off my last unnumbered SD40-2 and last 2 first run SD40T-2's (5362 & 5371) and use the funds to purchase 3 of the latest run. The former all had the first run snow plow with the doors closed which would have had to be upgraded + two of them had the PTC cabinets and I've backdated before the PTC era. I've now got 16 individually numbered D&RGW tunnel motors (5341, 5342, 5343, 5347, 5348, 5351, 5354, 5355, 5368, 5374, 5377, 5484, 5399, 5301, 5305 and 5311.

Here's a shot of some of my UTAH RAILWAY SD40s. I painted and decaled 9010, 9011, 27, and the caboose. THe 9009 and 9005 are Athearn RTR units.
I used Navy Aggressor Grey, and Italian Red from Model Master. I have since learned that it should be CSX gray and SP Scarlet with the Microscale decals. Over head SD40s UTAH RAILWAY.jpg

The Utah Rwy paint scheme has always been a favorite of mine and looked as good on the SD40's and MK's as it did on the RSD4/5's!

The Red and Grey scheme was designed by Warren Johnson here in Utah. He was at a train show, as was the president of the UTAH. Warren had just painted an SD45 in this scheme, and the president of the UTAH was wondering what colors he should paint some newly leased locomotives...He bought Warren's loco, and told MPI (Motive Power Industries), "Paint them like this!"

You haven't seen enough photo's yet! Being the big D&RGW fan than I am, I have seen a few but yeah.... Of course models look more realistic with some appropriate weathering - I'm not a real fan of the last days of the SP/D&RGW when things looked like total crap; not either RR's best "hour". But I don't want to ruin a good model until I learn to weather one the way I want it to look. What little hobby time I get is building a layout right now; can't do it all ya' know! Until then, you'll just have to "suffer" along with our clean photo's!

I could quite happily suffer with a collection of 16 Burlington Northern SD40-2s clean or dirty ☺
