Well it's time to update this thread since it has been a while. I did get some progress on the layout while I was on vacation over the holidays. With the Plano show coming up, I had to get something done before the show. So to get the biggest impact, I decided to get the bench work for the branch line built. Here is the starting point at Clarksville Jct.

I then added the last portion of the yard on the "east end"

Now that the yard area is in, I can get the rest of the branch installed.

I started at Clarksville and worked back toward Clarksville Jct. Here is the town site for Clarksville.

This area is 15" wide by 11'-7" long. The line then crosses over the main east of Spadra.

The branch runs west behind Spadra and loops around the backdrop and ties into the bench work at Clarksville Jct.

This is the last shot of the B-line

With the bench work in place I can start laying out track work and start spiking rail. The branch will be C70 with C55 sidings and spurs.

Before I forget, I did work up a simple trackplan for the readers to follow. If you follow the Spadra Turn that I covered a couple of pages back, you can see how the pics follow the trackplan. There are only two sidings that will accommodate road freights: Van Buren and Spadra. The runaround at Ozark is for holding overflow plastic pellet hoppers.

I made the plan simple in notepad. I didn't see any reason to learn how to use some software program since my railroad is already built for the most part.

I also added a new structure to the Van Buren backdrop but I will have to wait to upload pics. Hope you enjoy.

Can you post some pics of the battery powered unit, or maybe a write up on how you did that. it's pretty cool I can see myself trying something like that sometime.

Here is a pic of the inside of the dummy unit with the batteries and r/c board. The batteries a rechargeable li-polys. The motor in the powered unit is isolated from the frame and receives its power from the dummy unit. Currently I am working on a article for this installation.

As promised, a couple of pics of the new industry in Van Buren. Crockett Plumbing Supply consist of the main warehouse building with offices and storage as well as a add-on section for the commercial division of the company.

I just used some cardboard I had on hand, cut it to size, printed some doors and windows from the web and glued them on the structure. I made the signage in Excel. About two hours later I had a nice backdrop mock up (not to mention another industry to switch). Now I need to re-shoot a long shot of the yard to show how this structure filled the gap along the backdrop.

I like your layout, MopMan. Nice work.

My layout is set in Crossett, Ark. in the late 70's - early 80's and a MoPac local comes into my paper mill from staging representing MeGehee, Ark.

Here is a long shot of the yard in Van Buren taken before Crockett Plumbing was installed

    And after Crockett Plumbing

It sure does help add interest along the backdrop. Other details will be added between the buildings when the permanent structures are built and installed.

I printed them from the Design Preservation Models site. They have paper layouts of a lot of their wall sections and I just cut out the doors and windows I needed. Hope that helps and welcome to Trainboard.

Today I wanted to get a head start on the track work in Clarksville Jct. I had about 5-1/2 sections of cork road bed and a partial sack each of Kapler switch and regular ties. So I figured I would just lay what I could with what I had. Here is what I did today.

This is the west end where the branch meets the main.

And this is the east end where the branch loops around the backdrop.

You might notice in the first pic that the tie jig is already loaded for the first turnout on the west end. After the glue dries completely, I will sand the cork to give it a smooth surface for the ties. That's it for today. Hopefully I will have pics of the ties in place tomorrow.
