Here's another good one - yikes . . . one can still find some of these at trainworld for under a third of this. http://www.ebay.com/itm/New-Bachman...434106?pt=Model_RR_Trains&hash=item35b0f9e63a
Why, why, why....WHY do people on eBay constantly bid up items throughout an auction????? All it does it serve to jack up the final price through the roof until it's at an inflated amount. And oh yes, the times I'm the seller I sit back in glee at the practice - for that very reason. But DANG IT folks, that's what the 'watch' feature is for, to keep the price down as long as possible so that when you bid your best offer AT THE END, you might have a better chance at getting it. ((((END OF RANT)))):frustrated:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/BACHMANN-SP...511808?pt=Model_RR_Trains&hash=item460bca3480 just a funny one I stumbled upon. Anybody want a gas turbine doodlebug?
Goofy name, but the overall model looks to be in great shape.............too bad I'm not in the market right now.
I couldn't resist posting a link to this video- kinda fits the stuff of questionable value we see on eBay. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YKtlK7sn0JQ Next time you see a green & purple Tyco boxcar decaled for your favorite railroad and selling for an unearthly amount of cash, hope this song comes to mind.
Hah - yes - mixed feelings. When I'm a seller - hooray - bid on please. The seller hates it when it sits and then sells for $2 for a $15 item. I think thats why very few start things at .99 anymore. I know that I lost the faith to do that, lost my shirt too many times. Actually, the only times I see bidding up, are those magic times for the seller, and maddening for the buyer, the times when the item is an item of high demand. Also it changes from week to week. I had an Engine, started at $33, by the end of the 'fixed price' listing, it was down to $22.50, and unsold. I relisted it an hour after it quit, as auction, at $25, and got a bid a day later, and then a small war, up to $32 at the end? Go figure, but I was happy. The really weird part is when a new, in production, item bids up past the retail price. As a buyer, I hate the brainless automatic bidder thingummys. It takes all the style out of the chase for the bid at the last moment.
I can relate to all that! Sometimes no rhyme or reason. I just scored a once in a blue moon buy on a caboose I was looking for. Bid started at $1.00 and lo and behold I got lucky. Of course shipping was 7.95, sooo..... A few weeks ago I was searching for a Amtrak FP45. In my "FP45" search results there turned up an excellent L&N/Family Lines caboose that was in an Athearn FP-45 box. The seller din't know a FP45 from a hole in the ground, so it was listed as a "FP-45" and for .99. Yep, ONE BIDDER nailed me at the end by a nickel or something like that.
The really weird part is when the buy it now price is greater than the retail list price and there is shipping, I can get it at my LHS for at least 10% off, and no shipping but have to pay tax. Rick J
http://www.ebay.com/itm/HO-Train-Lo...821188?pt=Model_RR_Trains&hash=item589d846384 Am I missing something on this? $31.00 with 8 bids already for this junk? Somebody tell me there is more to it somewhere?
Now, why would you pay that much for some little extras and spare parts that you could go purchase new for cheaper at your local LHS?
Thing is, I have all this stuff right now - and before this epiphany, I would have put the odds of selling it on eBay for anywhere near $31.00 (or $1.00, for that matter) at around zero! Apparently there is money to be made on all this crap I'm trying to keep organized in little pull-out drawers LOL.
Found one... http://www.ebay.com/itm/Ships-Free-Lionel-Chessie-GP9-Diesel-Locomotive-GM50-in-Gold-B-O-Anniversary-/330893130126?pt=Model_RR_Trains&hash=item4d0ac4798e See, I like Lionel HO, but not for that much.
It's not Half Zero. It's 0, three rail, with rollers, and like most everything listed today, decimal point is off by at least one.
Woah, I didn't even notice that the first pic was the HO version, then the other three were the O version. Anyway, I found some more... http://www.ebay.com/itm/Model-Power...=UK_Trains_Railway_Models&hash=item589df72bf2 I am sure this has got to be a typo in terms of shipping. http://www.ebay.com/itm/10-12-packs...570656?pt=Model_RR_Trains&hash=item4ac2c994e0 Ore cars anyone?

Other that the wrong road number, shade of red, dynamic brakes and winterization covering, I don't see much wrong with this foobie. Well, except for the fact I can pay the same for a better-running Atlas or P2K GP7 and get a better model.
Depends on when it was built as to drive. I have a chassis, 8-wheel drive, geared...except there is a metal spring belt in pulleys between motor and worm shafts in trucks. The flexibility of the trucks is through the belt. Dave
