http://denver.craigslist.org/clt/5541231287.html I about died laughing when I came upon this one. Where oh where did this person come up with the price? $1800? Who in there right mind would pay that much for low end Marx? According to the description they have seen more expensive examples. Where? There is clearly a missing decimal place.
Glad to know you survived the laugh! I agree it's a huge gut buster. The transformer is a module and tender a "tow behind". A big hoot. Ha ha. Their pictures stink. It looks like there is some Lionel, including possibly the tender. But that is definitely a plastic Marx 1666 2-4-2, which is missing parts. Even if the engine were mint, it's in the $15 to $25 buck range, and add ten or so more on the HIGH end. That seller is flat out NUTZ.
Probably not. Some clueless collector will snag it, and suddenly all junk Mark will refer to that as the mark to attain. Twenty delivered, if I needed any Marx...which I do not...ever....
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Lionel-Train-Set-1467W-/291740658002?hash=item43ed192952:g:efQAAOSwubRXFBcj At least decals on the engines seem intact. But I'm seeing what appears to be some rust on several items. Pictures could be a lot better. We have seen a lot worse, but still well outside of the ball park.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Rare-Antiqu...942787?hash=item4afd75e883:g:J1MAAOSwoBtW5eqE It would be nice if people could post good photos, and also clean up their offerings.
Yeah, some corrosion. But given it is an 027 set, the locomotives are the most valuable things there.....and I'd guess 300-400 range to the right collector, but, hey, this is evilbait, and strange things happen with auction fever. Opinion.
Cheap set. Metal flat that all I ever do is pull the trucks for parts and pitch. Cheaper caboose (6017) with no ladders, stack, toolboxes or window insets. How many short gons does one need? The engine appears to be quite sun faded, but, again, with people who can't take photographs, who knows? Here's what they are supposed to look like: http://www.tandem-associates.com/lionel/lionel_trains_627_diesel.htm 150 tops, pitch the rusty track, scrap the cars, repaint the engine? Well, maybe more like 75-100 for the right kollector? Opinion.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/LIONEL-TRAIN-SET-/231921958535?hash=item35ffa03e87:g:ttkAAOSw2GlXGr6Q I would wish to see the 1615 in better condition.
Filthy and scuffed. Paint on the loco needs a complete re-do. Switching pilot bent back pretty badly, and rusty. One class light (part of boiler casting) gone. Cars are nothing to brag about...but the 6457 caboose, once cleaned and re-painted, lettered for your road, has windows, ladders, stack and toolboxes. Five bucks. 3484 operating boxcar...plunger is ripped out of the floor (you can see daylight through the hole) and appears to be missing the figure. Five bucks for repaint fodder. Leaves the tender, bought one at GoodWill for a buck and a half once...still have it. IF the engine runs maybe 40 for the lot delivered. And C-7 grading? What planet? "I'm selling an o scale train set i got is in a very good shape and there for four cars in the box tracks power pack are not in the box and the shipping is for us only and it must been an old antiques for sure i way say the 50s for sure and is never been use," Never been use? Again, describe the planet seller is from again? Opinion.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/VINTAGE-LIO...101942?hash=item33b5a946f6:g:IC0AAOSwKfVXFUqn El cheapo stuff, price way out of line.
Cheap Scout #242 (and wheel arrangement, too), plastic self-disintegrating clamshell motor, cars nothing special at all. You couldn't GIVE me one of those engines..and the cars..look like riveted trucks, not interested. Twenty buck set at Value Village. Opinion.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Huge-Lionel...265536?hash=item41a97ab540:g:Zd0AAOSwl9BWImL9 A grand plus shipping? Engine is missing trailing truck, tender is so corroded it needs to be glass beaded and start over. Rolling stock is common. Lots of rust on trucks and wheels. Here is a 229 in NICE shape WITH tender that sold for 169: http://www.dakotapaul.com/items/showitem.asp?iid=4162 Some 031 track, mostly 027, some rusted pretty good, most of the switches are VERY recent plastic, power supply is far more recent than this "set". Keep the track and trestle set, maybe a hundred bucks for the rest as-is. New get-rich-quick scheme? Opinion.
"i really dont know alot about this stuff," Obviously. Bent, scratched, repainted, broken, on a dare I'd give 30 bucks and take my chances. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Vintage-Lio...967721?hash=item3f403224e9:g:M3EAAOxykUZTfkVa Opinion only.
Huge? What's huge about it? Hmmm. The usual junk track, rotted wiring insulation, etc. Maybe one hundred is on the generous side?
That statement being true, where did the wild stab at a price come from? I'd love to know an answer to this question.
Ha ha. I have several theories. One is that Marijuana is legal and was used. Another is the sippin' whisky is really good stuff. Yet another is they use a "what price sounds good to charge today" dart board.
I like the thought that they use one of those boards with spinner lol Sent from my SM-G920P using Tapatalk
Well after sending a nice question of "just curious what you used for a pricing guide on this? Seen the same loco go for $50 in better condition" I got a really nasty message back, threatening in fact lol Sent from my SM-G920P using Tapatalk
