I might worry a bit. If the item is clearly marked as "Yugoslavia", and you list it as Slovenia, I might bet some illiterate will notice and complain. They won't win, but you could need to use a few aspirin before the Bay Crew gets that complaint squashed.

Meanwhile, there's no question in my mind that almost everyone, if not everyone, got caught in the Great eBay Category Shuffle. (Sung to the tune of "The Curly Shuffle"? Never mind.)

I spent a few minutes last night cruising through the N Scale category and noted that some well-known and well-established reputable sellers also had the whole lot of their items shoved into the "Other N Scale" category.

I have tried to be open-minded/flexible with this change but I was in the habit of perusing the old categories surfing for wanted items, hidden gems and good deals at non-hyped Ebay pricing regularly seen there. I use Ebay as kind of a big flea market, narrowing down the categories to find the items that are out of production or harder to find than through my local hobby store or online stores.

This new change makes it a lot more challenging to search and find anything without going through 1000's of items. I can't believe Ebay is not seeing a dip in their number as a result.

If you are looking for a specific item, searching is not really an issue. It is the random "surprise" finds that are difficult. The odd/rare/old items you did not know you needed until you saw them at a great price, poorly described by the seller and a steal by Ebay standards...

I just checked N Scale on Ebay. According to Ebay ther are 83,754 listings in N scale. 63,714 of those listings are in the category of "other N scale". There are separate categories for freight cars, passenger cars, locomotives, track, and parts but you will find items that should be in those separate categories in the "other" category. If I were a seller I would be concerned about whether my listing was getting the widest possible audience.

It won't until the sellers go through the trouble of changing the categories, or as listings naturally expire and are replaced with newer listings which are forced to conform to the new categories.

eBay has been informing sellers that they needed to be ready for this change, I guess via beefing up descriptions and adding key words, but in my mind there was no real change management.

Meanwhile, HO Scale has 232,076 listings as of my snapshot, of which 138,743 are "Other" and another 75,871 are "Parts and Accessories." Quite the haystack in which to find a needle. Z Scale has 6149 "Other" out of 7138 listings.

Agreed. It would help if their people who dream up these changes were more informed about the items being listed. I wonder just how much they actually know about selling anything?

And I once again say "what is the humor here?" this is just aggravating.
I have not sold anything on the Bay in months. They keep bombarding us with emails on our selling status and advertising things but I think their sales are falling across the board as they have seemingly drops the reigns.
    IMHO

I used to receive those notices. I have turned off anything possible to not receive them.

Meanwhile, once we can decipher how to surf their site again, I'm sure we'll start seeing more about "interesting" sales offerings.

This is more of the issue than any of us thinks I would be willing to bet.
Management probably brings in the ones who spout off the most that brag who they can "DO it" and so management say "Oh hey he/she sounds like they know what they are talking about" "As long as they can make US money, let them try".

They might as well let the chimps run the sight, much like they do with the stock market when the chimps throw darts to pick the top sellers.

I have to agree with Fifer, there's nothing funny here. In fact, it's kind of aggravating. Most of my searches either now turn up nothing or turn up 100's of (unrelated) results. If there was another game in town I would go play with them...but there isn't.

Conversation amongst their top leadership: "Iceberg dead ahead, Captain!" Response: "Maintain present course, full speed!"

Maybe it's a way to get people to list in more than one category.

I'm running more of my stuff through the N Scale Yard Sale Yahoo Group.

If it doesn't sell there, I will put it on E Bay.
