There are no SDP45s I know of still operational... with 3600 hp. Some have been rebuilt and are around, or at least were recently. http://railpictures.net/viewphoto.php?id=83620 UP 2771 in 2004. http://railpictures.net/viewphoto.php?id=102479 UP 2768 in 2005. http://railpictures.net/viewphoto.php?id=138067 HLCX 6515 earlier this year.
Dan- NRE? As in National Railway Equipment Company? GN 400 "Hustle Muscle" (GNHS) should still be at MTM. Boxcab E50
Ken, Yes about NRE. GN 400 is an SD45, not an SDP45. Slightly longer difference. The SDP45s never wore the orange and green scheme. They were delivered in Big Sky blue.
Darn!! Well, hope they save an SDP-40 atleast, and maybe put her in "Big Sky Blue", if she ever wore it.
Yes. I know. Thought we were talking about SD45's. Oops. I remember when the GN SDP45 first came. Big PR blab. Seems like a million years ago now.... Boxcab E50
The LS&I railroad in upper Michigan bought from BN the old U-30C's and they still run them on ore operations. All of them are still in the BN paint with LS&I logos on the units. LS&I like to change there paint color when they get "new" used power, it almost always the colors of the former road. http://www.geocities.com/i994impalass/p030lsi102305.jpg http://www.geocities.com/i994impalass/h050lsi062003.jpg
BoxCab... I Think it's somthing like this: U23C: #2303 Inactive-Parts, U25C: #2501 Inactive-Display, U30C: #3000 Active, #3001-#3002 Inactive-Parts, #3003-#3006 Active, #3007 Inactive-Wrecked, #3008-3011 Active, #3016 Inactive-Scrap, #3050 Inactive-Parts, #3051-#3053 Active, C30-7: #3071-#3074 Active. As for LS&I locos that have the BN paint those are the ones numbered from 3000-3074 of which they are a mix of U30C and C30-7 that they have is about 21 (Last time I Checked). Im going to talk to some buddys, I'll keep you posted if I hear somthing eles. Here's a good side shot of 3003 ~Chris
Looks fairly clean. Decently maintained. Much better than some of the rent-a-wreck stuff roaming our land. Boxcab E50
send me an email address and I will send you some pictures of BURLINGTON NORTHERN [MANITOBA] LOCO from Winnipeg Canada. FRED email: fgjw@msn.com
Note According to http://www.railroadmichigan.com/lakesuperiorishpeming.html 2500 was taken out of service in 1984 and scrapped in 1990. 2501 was retired in 1989. I believe it was the last U25C in service anywhere.
I remember seeing solid set of those Cascade Green SD40-2's when I was 8. Some of them are now at their new owners First Union Rail. BNSF Still have some of those.
