The ones they used to haul potatoes out of Idaho (or someplace similar) with in the early 90's? Not much chance considering how unique they were....
Triple-stacks? I thought those only existed in a weird dream I once had... Those are some pretty non-standard containers.
Are you ready for a triple-stack container train? Feb. 1995. http://findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_m1215/is_n2_v196/ai_16539317/pg_1
OK, am I in bizarro world or something? 3 pages and no mention of SPINE CARS? There are exactly ZERO currently available in n-scale right now.
Well, if you mean RTR spine cars you are correct. However http://www.nscalekits.co.uk/ picked up the Alan Curtis line and the spine car kits live on. Russ
Yep, the Alan Curtis/nscalekits spine cars are the bomb! They are the backbone (har-de-har) of my intermodal fleet. I had never heard of those triple stacks before until this thread and the link to the article. Is UP still using them now?
Yes, the former Alan Curtis now Nscalekits spine cars are not RTR but they are not hard to make at all, and they look great, run great and are very tuff when dropped (trust me:embarassed: ) and : Also, deluxe innovations has been taking reservations on several spine car sets, so I would call them- "upcoming" I'll also add that the Alan Curtis Now nscalekits TOFC flats are a very easy build and look great (can't figure out why it is or what it is that makes the MTL 89' TOFC flat look "off.") I'd put in another vote for 53' Trinity stand-alone well cars.
I wasn't aware they were able to be ordered at this time. Thought it would be a bit before those items were shipping. Perhaps I was misinformed. The Deluxe cars are fighting with PCM for vaporware of the decade.
Intermodal car ideas This thread has made very interesting reading for a manufacturer! There are a number of suggestions here that I believe will come into fruition over the next few months. Watch this forum. We started making the patterns for one new car this week and hope to have some news soon. We have also been busy researching new cars too, so the ideas here have been helpful. We are now shipping orders for the intermodal spinecars and Gunderson sets - thanks for the support. We are open to ideas - but need to ensure that the market grows, and that there is reasonable demand for the new cars. Peter Harris N Scale Kits www.nscalekits.com
At least Deluxe has photos of the pre-production samples available... I'm sure they'll be worth the wait ;-) Mr Wallet isn't complaining either at the moment!
Are you referring to the pre-production samples of the 53's? Those photos have been in existence at least 3-4 years. If they have photos of the pre-production 57's that'd be a step forward, no doubt. I checked their site but couldn't find anything but would love to be proven wrong. Sorry, but the "GHQ is mucking up the works" excuse just doesn't fly anymore. If it hasn't happened by now... Just bash it in the head and move on...at least get the 57's done for cryin' out loud. I hear you about Mr. Wallet, but it seems like they'll come at the most inopportune time anyway, or both together, or along with a dozen other things I want. The PERFECT time for delivery will be the same month that Intermountain finally delivers the first dozen numbers of their 60-foot TTX flats. Sorry, just ranting...I'm sure when I go home and stare at the AC Models spine kit I've had in my project bin for the past 4 years that'll make everything all better.
Does anyone make a 5 unit well car in N? All I have seen is 3 units. Or did I maybe see one from Walthers? Speaking of Walthers, is the intermodal stuff they put out worth a poop or not worth the hassle?
Walthers - 5-unit 48' Thrall car Worth it? The detail is not very good but it is a nice heavy metal car. I have a few but I'm doing a lot of modifications for my own satisfaction on the appearance. Deluxe 5 unit cars Maxi-III Twinstack Lopac 2000 (this one is a RTR reworking of the one below) Interail Lopac 2000 kit Alan Curtis Maxi-III kit Maxi-III rebuilt (40' wells) kit NSN also did a Maxi-III kit
What TRAILER is most needed in N scale ? -reposted from the Greenlight Intermodal forum- Rather than start a new thread, I am descreetly posting this hear ! What TRAILER is most needed in N scale ? That's what I was recently asked to find out. SO - what is your answer/suggestion. If you were to suggest a new TRAILER model to a manufacturer, what would it be ? Remember he needs to sell a decent quantity to make back his investment in tooling. N Scale , injection molded plastic. ------------------------------------------------------------- From this thread, I see that 'Parcel style trailers' would be on the list - what else ? Post here or email me. TX, Steven questions@greenlightintermodal.info
I'd say any of the more popular 48-footers could be useful. And the UPS trailers, no doubt. I would love to see some flatbeds with laser-cut wood decks, too. They occassionally make it as intermodal loads...sometimes stacked atop one another as an "inter-intermodal" load. hehe And a non-intermodal request: rock/gravel trailers and modern cattle trailers.
