Looks like its on a Kato SD40-2 frame, so wouldn't it be an SD40-2F? And those are the "Draper Tapers." Also, not to be mean or anything, but I can say for certain you are not the only 14 year old in model railroading.
It's not an SD40-2, check out the fuel tank, it looks like a -9 or and ES44 chassis, which would be 6 feet too long for an SD60F. Those are cool engines, I'm just curious about the route the builder is taking to get it done.
the sill and front and back railings look to be from a sd70m or sd70ace. with out a side view it is hard to tell the fuel tank.
It has to be a SD60f because it has a 4 window cab. That was used on CN. Only CP had SD40-2f, and it was the 3 window (triclops cab).
Finished up my canteen car this afternoon. I didn't have the heart to cut on my Bachmann WM 2-8-0 to convert the Rapido coupler, so hatched the idea of bashing a very old Bachmann tender into a canteen car with a recessed Rapido coupler in front (for close coupling) and a Micro-Trains coupler on the rear. The forward top of the canteen car is cut from an equally old Bachmann AT&SF 4-8-4 tender. Decals are Microscale and yes, I had to cut out each letter separately because nobody makes NYS&W steam decals in N. My freelance road is the Delaware, Susquehanna & Northern. I wanted the hatchways to show a little rust, so tried chalk. I can always wash it off if I tire of it.
So Rapido announces accurate VIA baggage cars and what do I get serious about starting shortly after? The fun part is going to be the lengthening of the floor and roof. But then, I feel that it's better than using the core kit that came with the Athabasca kit.
Locomotives and motors waiting for traction tire replacements. They will get an application of Bull Frog Snot. I'm tired of wasting my time taking everything apart just to replace them. A poor man's excuse for a hard pulling locomotive. Then there's all those cars that found the top side of the floor. Time to replace wheel sets, broken knuckles, an assortment of ladders and stirrups. How about the cars I want to paint, re-letter and weather? Stacks of them waiting for my attention. I have the decal sheets but no paint because there's no budget. Oh such fun! What's on my work bench? I'm beginning to think a trash pile. Time to remove the bad order tags and put everything on the dead order track. Off to the recyclers, dismantlers and let them torch the works. Never mind the dust, cat hair, remnants of the residence Tom Cat's marking their territory and the ever presence of such fine feline perfumes. Fortunately the train equipment is in sealed plastic baggies or various kinds of plastic containers. In anticipation of such behavior. You have to be a cat lover to put up with such things. I'm working on my train shed and things are coming along. Just about finished insulating it. A job I should of done before I built the layout. No problem I worked at it and around it, having planned early on for this event and you wouldn't believe the difference it's already making. On the layout: A sound system, not DCC is in place and sounds pretty good. Plans for new control panels as Mike Fifer illustrates in one of his many how to videos. I will set up the layout so I can operate with DCC or Analog DC. Leaving it wired as is. There does that give you a complete list of not only what's on my work bench but to do list? I've been working on BarstowRick.com with a considerable amount of editing. Feel free to stop in for a visit. Thanks in advance for doing so. Let me know if you like it or not. It's written in a way, I HOPE, a first timer will be able to understand. Keeping it simple but not simpleton. And then maybe not. Grin! Have fun!
About time. Now what are you going to build me? I've got more real estate to go on my layout then I have room to put it.
Actually, it was the design name for the type of cowl used on the HR616, SD40-2F, SD50F, SD60F and C40-8M.
Now that winter is over I can get painting outdoors again. Windows and a few more details to go. Cheers Steve NZ
Is this a prototype unit ALCo built? Has me thinking of a demonstrator set I once saw in a photo somewhere.
