Being the head honcho of NARA I thought it would be neat to get some industrial imput from the members. This could also mesh with Corey's data-base. So the question is,"If you were to own youe own business rail related or not(but still a shipper) what would it be?
Catt, If I were to own my own business that shipped via rail it would have to be one of the raw materials industries. Perhaps either lumber or concrete or some kind of stone quarry (limestone, gravel). These industries keep a railroad in business. Russ/NYC The Hoffman Valley Railroad NARA member#28

Guys your missing the point of my origonal post. I didn't ask what kind of businesses you had on your railroads.I asked what kind of business you would own personally. The idea being to give myself and others a supply of names we could use on our layouts such as "CASSER GRAIN CO". <marquee>North American Rail Alliance</marquee>
Johnathan, now I understand (it seems that I´m being old) But, you should not mentioned about Corey´s database. I think that mislead all of us. I will come back with name suggestions. -------- Helge SR&WF NARA member #5
For those of you who haven't posted your industry lists yet, you can post them under the topic "NARA Industry Database" which I started. As for my favorite industry/type of industry, it would have to be a locomotive rebuilder (like Alstom or SuperSteel). Really, would like to own a RR (maybe just a shortline would be fine).

Hello Catt, It is definitely a good idea Although my last name is french, "patiou" and not really prototypical for a North American industry,I would choose a meat packing plant. Here are my reasons: 1°It is a real "transformation" industry 2°It goes from the golden railroading age to today (frozen food) 3°I do like meat... If you think of modelling old south like New Orleans or Baton Rouge Area and even Saint Louis, a french name is plausible... marc
