N Scale Division is reporting that the new engine from Atlas will be a B23-7 No roadnames or expected delivery dates yet.
Great news! Now all I have to do is scratchbuild that "Q" cab for my BQ23-7's Chessie ------------------ Harold Hodnett Fan of NS, CSX, and their predecessors! Coming soon: The North Carolina Railfan Web Site http://www.trainweb.org/ncrail/
Your right that is great news, those B23's are my favorite engines. Now all we need is the road numbers and the release date, I'm hoping for CR1910 before fall next year. All the other road names can wait! lol Adam
Now if only we had this in HO ------------------ Theres no such thing as having to many coal hoppers or GP40-2 when you model Chessie System LONG LIVE THE KITTEN!!! LONG LIVE BIG BLUE!!! I looked at DCC... and stayed DC!
Nice to see a relatively modern GE 4-axle finally made. I read somewhere there could be up to 5 variations covering battery box types and 2 types of trucks - AAR-B and floating bolster. I'll try to track it down. Gary. ------------------ Gary A. Rose The Unofficial TC&W page TrainBoard Moderator and Member No.377 N to the Nth degree!
Gary, I saw a posting including various details, including high nosed versions, but caution that I have not seen any details from ATLAS. I would like to hear it from the "source". From the report from the Chicago train show, Atlas N scale: The 2001 Atlas Catalog announced the B23-7 in N Scale. The initial run will include six different undecorated units! Roadnames include Santa Fe, BNSF, Conrail, CSX, NS, Southern, SP and UP. Each road names will be available in two numbered units in both DC and DCC versions. In addition, the DC version will include a painted but unnumbered unit for each road name. This is from the One RR Ave site, they have all the new releases announced at the show in all scales. I assume the six different undec versions include high and low nose, different light locations, and other oddities. http://www.onerrave.com ------------------ Corey Lynch Pres - Rensselaer Model RR Society NEB&W RR http://www.rpi.edu/~lynchc/Railfanning/railfanning.htm - My Site http://www.union.rpi.edu/railroad/ - NEB&W

Does anyone have a site that has a picture of a B23? ------------------ Regards Paul Cassar-# Member number 50 SPAD Investigator #1 ICQ 61198217 http://users.bigpond.net.au/railroad2000
Just a thought, Atlas also announced a new unit for HO the Dash8-40B. Do you guys think maybe we will see them produce this unit in N scale also. They must think there is a market for it if they are willing to produce it in HO. Didn't they do the same with another unit, only they produced the first version in N and then produced an HO unit? Anyway, great news, I was all prepared to add another dash9 or two to my roster but I already have some of them and would rather put my money towards something I don't have. Great job Atlas Keep up the good work. ------------------
Price????? 68.00 sound reasonable dosen't it?? NOOO WAYY why can't anyone build good, accurate,& reliable locos other than Bachmann?? ------------------ Appalachian & Atlantic Model Railroad "QUALITY at WORK with SAFTEY in MIND"
I think a B40-8W might be in the works. This could turn out sort of like an SD60/SD60M/SD50 thing. The B40-8's and 8W's are one locomotive I have been waiting for for a LONG time so I hope Atlas does come out with them! ------------------ Craig Martyn Best Looking Models Around Custom detailing AND N scale detail parts. I look forward to a B23-7 or two As to a possible B40-8W, Atlas usually releases an N scale version about six months after an HO one, so we can only hope As a ATSF/BNSF modeller, I could really use some B40's! ------------------ Alan The perfect combination - BNSF and N Scale! www.ac-models.com Andersley Western Railroad Alan's American Gallery

I would like to hear it from the "source". Chessie

I agree with you, Harold. I finally found the message that had the 'info' - B23-7 Including High Hood versions. They list 6 undecs; - Fat Anti-climber,Knuckle Battery Box, FB-2 trucks, Low Nose, Flat rear H/L, - Fat Anti-climber,Button Battery Box, AAR trucks, Low Nose, Flat rear H/L, - Fat Anti-climber,Button Battery Box, FB-2 trucks, Low Nose, Protruding rear H/L, - Thin Anti-climber, Button Battery Box, Blomberg trucks, Low Nose, Flat rear H/L, - Thin Anti-climber,Knuckle Battery Box, FB-2 trucks, High Nose, Protruding rear H/L, - Thin Anti-climber,Button Battery Box, FB-2 trucks, Low Nose, Protruding rear H/L. My message was a forward form an excerpt that came from the Freightcars list. Apparently, it originated from the N Scale Division. From the above, and assuming current manufacturing habit of seperate body/sill/handrails, it would take *only*; - three bodies - one high hood, and two low hood (one each flush and protruding rear headlight), - four walkway/sills - 2 each 'fat' and 'thin' anti-climbers with 'button' or 'knuckle' battery boxes catches (available in each anti-climber style), - three truck sidframes - floating bolster, AAR-B (alread available), and EMD Blomberg B (already available), to create all the above undecorated and unannounced decorated units. That's a big committment in anyone's language. I'd like to see the official announcement on Atlas' site, too, before getting too excited. Gary. Gary. ------------------ Gary A. I agree with Kiltman -- another good Southern Rwy diesel! Southern had 54 of B23-7s. A good combination with the SD-35s. I'm glad they are spreading these releases out. It gives my bank account time to recover! Look Ahead, Look South

quote:
Originally posted by Colonel: Does anyone have a site that has a picture of a B23?

I have posted quite a few on the CSX forum, however, they are of the BEST B23-7: the BQ23-7! It was a "Quarters Cab" option ordered only by the Seaboard Coast Line.... kinda like the modern W or M cab,,,, only years ahead of its time! Getting back to the original question, yes I have some B23 pics (somewhere) that I can scan. Most likely Family Lines, Seaboard System, and of course Southern and Norfolk Southern high nosed units. So, what'dya want to see? Chessie ------------------ Harold Hodnett Fan of NS, CSX, and their predecessors! Coming soon: The North Carolina Railfan Web Site http://www.trainweb.org/ncrail/
