Here's a webpage with links to pics of SP B23-7's (and an HO model, too.): http://espee.railfan.net/spb23-7.html The best part is, it shouldn't take too much work to make B30/36-7's. The pages for those locos on the same site discuss the differences. Dwight
<BLOCKQUOTE>quote:</font><HR>Originally posted by Alan: I look forward to a B23-7 or two As to a possible B40-8W, Atlas usually releases an N scale version about six months after an HO one, so we can only hope As a ATSF/BNSF modeller, I could really use some B40's! <HR></BLOCKQUOTE>Let's not forget the Amtrak Pepsi Cans! ------------------ Brent Tidaback, Member #234 BNSF Railfan-to-the Max and a N-Scaler to boot! amtrak who said anything about scamtrak. this is about b23-7s not pepsi cans. man this is going to be awesome for me, the mopac had 75 and the nasty southern has a few left after the auctions. ------------------ fly with route of the eagles.rock n roll all night and railroad everyday!
I'm asking if the B23-7 could be used as a base for Kit-Bashing or possible starting point for a production run for one of these Amtrak units. Is the frame the same length? If it is, I could "Bash" one from the Bachmann -8 Body and use the Atlas drive. ------------------ Brent Tidaback, Member #234 BNSF Railfan-to-the Max and a N-Scaler to boot! I just checked the drawings at http://paintshop.railfan.net and the Dash 8 is noticeably longer than the Dash 7. Mopac3092- Don't forget about the 55 externally identical B30-7A's, the last units delivered in Jenks Blue. Dwight
i saw the catalog that announced them today.does anyone know if they are taking orders yet?i have 6 preordered allready.man the bnsf has never looked so good.with some sd70 macs around it would be even better. ------------------ ed pinkley home of the pinkley taurus
Man, those BNSF units do look goo! To bad I just sold most of my BNSF stuff. Im might get a SF or UP for run through power but I wuold have rather had Atlas do something else, preferably in BN, Does anyone know if this is a good starting point for a cabless BN b30-7a? Kevin
Kevin, externally the B23&B30 are identical. I hope that answers your question. ------------------ Catt!#118

<BLOCKQUOTE>quote:</font><HR>Originally posted by Catt: Kevin, externally the B23&B30 are identical. I hope that answers your question. <HR></BLOCKQUOTE> Welllll.....almost identical! The B23-7 and B30-7A share the same 12-cylinder prime mover and carbody, with six engine compartment access doors per side. But the B30-7 and B36-7 each have a 16-cylinder prime mover, which means a longer engine compartment, which works out to eight engine compartment access doors per side. They are all the same length, but the different prime movers change the door arrangements a little bit. Paul #3 ------------------ Have A Nice Day!
I HAVE BEEN MODELING N-SCALE FOR MANY YEARS. I AM REALLY AMAZED HOW FAR IT IS GOING. I WILL HAVE TO GET AT LEAST TWO OF THESE ENGINES!!!!!! DAN http://gotrains.homestead.com/MYRAILMODEL.html
I'm gonna need at least 6 of these puppies. Two for NS two for CSX and two or more for the GVRR. It just keeps gettin' BETTER!! ------------------ Catt!#118

<BLOCKQUOTE>quote:</font><HR>Originally posted by Kevin D Mumaw: Does anyone know if this is a good starting point for a cabless BN b30-7a? Kevin<HR></BLOCKQUOTE> Kevin - looking at photos of the BN B30-7AB's and SP B23-7, the long-hood door pattern is all but spot-on, the body step is there, and it's minor changes to the radiator's bodyside grills (Note - there appears to have been additions/changes to these during the late 80's - check photos). Not sure if the rooftop radiator grills are the same, though. The equipment/battery box arrangement is 90% with the forward access door having 2 latches on the BN and only one on the SP and appear to be the button type. The high short hood should be close enough to a high-hood front, so go with that, and add the slightly wider bodywork in lieu of the cab. The extended-range dynamic box on the roof was only fitted to 4053 up. According to the listing I posted earlier, the high-hood undec version comes with knuckle latches, where the BN used button (judging by photos) so the walkway will need ordering seperately. I reckon this would be a great project - and one I have been wanting to do some time - and it would require minimal work to complete. Now I have a reason to 'obtain' a couple... at least Harold - would you mind sending a right- and left-hand shot of a high-hood unit please? Thanks. Gary. ------------------ Gary A.
