One thing for sure, those EMDs are turbo-charged. I wonder what the UP loco is for there sometimes way over at the left on the south (terminal) view.

Are the 16 terminal tracks numbered left to right in the terminal view?

From the aerial view looking toward the terminal, they're numbered 1 to 16 from right to left. If you're standing in the terminal looking outbound, they're numbered left to right. Trains to our town often departed from Track 6, this one with a Crandall Cab.

OK, thanks Dan. I saw an old picture of the old sheds from in front of them looking at the front of the sheds and it looked like the numbers were ascending from east to west but the numbers weren't very clear.

I know I'm being a nuisance with the questions but this is fascinating stuff.

In the view to the south (terminal view), is the building in the lower left of the screen, just north of the CTA tracks, the Lake Street Tower?

Also, usually when a train, in the view to the north, is headed to the terminal, I can switch to the terminal view and see it appear and enter the terminal. Today, there was twice when I switched to the terminal view and the trains never appeared in the terminal view. Are there tracks that go under the elevated ones?

    Thanks,
    Doug

How do you switch views? I can find no camera controls on the original post's live video. Thanks.

I switch to full screen (the icon in the lower right corner) to view full size and then, to see the other view, collapse the view and scroll to the other one and enlarge.

Or, you can open the two views in YouTube in separate tabs and switch between the two tabs, which is faster.

I'm not given an alternate view option when I shrink the view. I only see the same controls as with the enlarge view. Is the original poster's video not the same video URL you're using?

Yes, you are correct. I haven't spent much time on the south (terminal) view, but that confirms that Lake Street still stands. (y)

All of the terminal tracks are at the same level. Maybe there's a camera feed delay? I'm not sure what else might cause that.

Speaking of the terminal view, there's a joint Chicago Transit Authority/C&NW station at the right. In 1970, they created a passenger connection there and marketed it as The Northwest Passage. :) As a young teen, I remember being mystified by it all.

In the publicity photo below, you can see the fancy new walkway and across from all of the terminal tracks, Lake Street Tower at right. The happy couple has exited the CTA and is walking toward the C&NW terminal. The walkway actually occupied the real estate of Track 1 which was removed. Sometime in the '90s, Track 1 was relaid. I'm not sure how the Northwest Passage is effected these days.

When you look at either video (railcam) window on page one of this thread, there should be four "arrows" in the lower right hand corner in the shape of a square with the "arrows" forming the corners. Clicking on this brings the video to full screen. While the full screen is active, the four "arrows" should still be there only pointing in and clicking on them reduces the video to its original size and then you can scroll to the other video.

If you click on "YouTube" in either railcam window, the video will open in YouTube. I just do a regular left click for the first one and then right click on the second one and select "open in a new tab" so the two videos are in separate tabs and you can switch between the tabs.

Oh, and I just realized you may mean you can't get to the other view from within the one you are presently viewing. That's correct, as far as I know. You have to scroll to the other one.

Thanks. When they first had the railcam up, the other day, they had it aimed further west so you couldn't see the Lake Street Tower. They have it aimed further east today. From some reading online, it seems they are still using the tower to control the track. I'm not really clear as to when exactly was meant by "today" in the articles, however because I didn't really pay attention to how old the articles are.

As far as the "disappearing" trains, I thought it may have been a timing or signal delay issue because there was a problem with the videos yesterday when they weren't working. I don't know if the tornado at O'Hare or related weather had anything to do with that or not. Then, of course, I went a little nuts and thought maybe they had some tracks below the elevated ones, even though I almost 100% knew that wasn't the case.

    Hi Doug,
Could you share the link for the other camera. Even with scrolling down, I can't seem to locate it either.

Yep, right on. Two of the photos you posted show the building across the river to the right with the tall vertical segment of white. In the photos you posted, we're seeing it from the other side. All of the MILW's passenger trains used that route under the C&NW. When riding the C&NW, I'd anxiously scan the MILW there, hoping for a train. It was like a full scale model railroad!

Can't you guys see the two camera views Dan posted on the first page of the thread? Anyway, here are the links to YouTube for them.

Sometime, overnight, I see they pointed the north view camera back to it's original, further west orientation. Yesterday, they had it further east. They left the south view further east, which is good, so the Lake Street Tower is visible.

Hmm, Old Forester. That must have been a famous soft drink, right? :D

Thank you Doug! (y)(y) I saw that other view when I first checked out the camera but didn't save it as a favorite and for some reason, it never showed again and only showed the one view. Saved it now so that should solve that :)

The tongue stick out thing wasn't supposed to be there. I must have fumble-fingered and hit the wrong key.
