Great stuff, LEW. I'll expand what I have uploaded at some time in coming months, so check back and write more! Boxcab E50
LEW, I have always enjoyed your expertise and the fact that you are willing to pass your knowledge on to those of us who never had the experiences that you did. Thank you, my friend. :tb-biggrin:
An answer to the 3 orders 71,35, and 12 # 71 was on the Mich. Div in 1940. #3 was a southbound passenger train and the 1475 was an H-5 2-8-2 freight northbound. Alex was the train order office for #3. #3 was having its superiority as a passenger train taken away and the order was put out as a 31 order.Alda was a 70 car siding about 1/2 mile south of Alex with a holding signal at the clearnce point at the south end. This was taking place in manual block terr. #35 was on the P&E Div. and it also is on a 31 train order. This type of order was common on railroads with several scheduled trains to use up the scheduled trains. This was also time table train order terr.By running engine 6508 as #53 and annulling # 52 the dispatcher may have saved himself from putting out several train orders. #12Was a 19 order running # 80 against the current of traffic. You will notice that at this time in history the tracks were eastward and westward.Information on this would be found in the timetable and would tell you the current of traffic,(eastward, current of traffic east). Any questions ,ask. LEW
Yes until 1898?,when it was taken over by the B4. The B4 in turn called it the Peoria and Eastern Div..This was the eastern part of the original from Indianapolis to Springfield,O.. From about 1930 on it was the Springfield Div. My father and the old timers still called it the P&E. The train and engine crews worked both ends as if it was P&E all the way. LEW
Ah. Thanks for that tidbit. I had somehow never associated the P&E with the Big Four. Dunno why not... I had known it was an NYC subsidiary. I should have figured it out. Boxcab E50
