Are your old locomotives not working well? Because the mechanism for the f units are not an upgrade from previous releases. So getting a mech will not change the running characteristics of the older units. Now the e units are a different loco with different trucks and length. Those mechs will not work with f units. I hope this helps.
Right now we are just getting back into production and with all the other stuff we are doing, not much time to offer chassis. Contact me at MTL and I will see what I can do for you. Cheers Joe Joe-at-Micro-trains.com
I'm not sure if I understand. As Joe S. said, this mechanism is not an upgrade, it is the same. Not to mention the fact that this mechanism has an advantage over the newer ones. Almost every part in this mechanism is available from MT as a replacement part. So, if you need to rejuvenate an old mechanism, the parts can be had. Unlike the newer chassis (from many manufacturers), you can order parts from the manufacturer. I was originally looking for replacement mechanisms to populate the A Unit shells that were left vacant when I powered my B unit shells. Dan S.
I do agree, as I should need to power my dummy B-units whose rolling caracteristic don't appeal me.:tb-wink::thumbs_up: Dom
Yessssss! MTL just announce a "CN" F7 with it's B unit, Finally !!!!!:bear-smile: Ya Baby! (Insert victory dance icon) And some "Real" CN Pointe-Saint Charles caboose kits are still available at Anthony's:bear-wink: Ben
That is a poor excuse for a caboose if ever I saw one. Thank the lord there are other options even if in kit form out there.
The only problem I have with my older F7's is the noise. I was under the understanding that these new F7's like had the coreless motors and therefore were much quieter. That's why I wanted to change mine out. That's all.
I quite agree with you Garth. I got one like this off of Ebay but it was a custom paint job with the yellow capolla and yellow stripe running along the roof line. Ken
I'm gratified to see the new CN F7's. I have to wonder if they will be produced in the red CP livery. Ken
Say what you will about the F7's, but they are the only locomotives I own that will pull ANYTHING, without complaint or slippage. I LOVE the little buggers. Of course, after the Glen Chenier treatment, they ARE a bit of a different animal, so admittedly I'm spoiled. Anyone that wants to unload their "coffee grinder" F7's for a good price, let me know!!
I'm with Bryan on this. I have a couple that have the full Glen Chenier treatment, a couple more with just wheel wipers, a few that are permanently tied together and wired as a pair, and a few more just factory original. The simple addition of wheel wipers or MUing these little guys does a great deal to improve their electrical pick-up. And, yes they do pull anything. Dan S.
Glen usually has an ad for wheel wipers in Z Track Magazine. I don't know if his web site is still active or not. I bought mine several years ago. Dan S.
Tell me about it!! Most of us model the Western roads where NONE of these were!! Been bugging some manufacturer's for a basic cupola caboose that EVERY railroad just about ran!!
I'll guess the Z community is still too small (and of which who run with caboose is even smaller) for serial production of cabeese. Although AZL showed that it is possible with their bay window caboose. .. coal and grain hoppers make a train... :-(
