Fort Bragg, California Passing through Fort Bragg I had hopes of seeing their rail equipment operating but was out of luck. This sounds like a good reason to return someday and ride the Skunk Train. Ben
San Diego, CA Here is a distant shot of the San Diego depot. The next morning I would then head out to do some railfanning near the depot while my family slept in. I will get those photos posted soon. Ben
What is the building behind this caboose? The bits of it I can see has me wondering if it is/was a depot?
I do not recall the building being a depot but the architecture in the photo would suggest that it could be. I looked for an answer on the web and so far the only railroad information that I have found is that the caboose is Western Pacific WP 641. The google maps are leading me to believe that it might have been just an architectural facade to make it look like a depot. The back side of the building has a totally different look. Ben
If just a facade, it does work in being suggestive. What is the piping on the outside of that caboose? Electrical conduit?
I believe it is electrical conduit, this caboose and a green SP heavywheight are set on the railway tracks in what amounts to an alleyway behind the embarcadero near the aquarium. I believe the building behind it houses an arcade or ferris wheel while the buildings in front are shops and dining. I feel like some sort of historical society or something is in the rolling stock.
Yeah I am pretty sure that it is conduit. The green SP was no where to be found when we were there. I am not sure as to where it has been moved to. Ben
San Diego, CA I have one more stop from this vacation to highlight. I will attempt to get the photos resized and posted soon. Ben
Barstow, CA Our last rail related stop was at the Western American Railroad Museum in Barstow, CA. Unfortunately the museum was closed but we did shoot a few photos. UP 9950 Santa Fe 1460 Ben
