Rerouted Rio Grande coal train, approaching the Royal Gorge bridge: Looking up: Photos by John Widmar, from my most recent visit to the Royal Gorge Western.
thanks guys, it is the first time i have ever built something like this. with that being said i think it came out pretty good for a first time. Greg
Greg, Great job on that bridge. When does the interstate go in? Are you going far enough East to build the Beverly bridge?? How is yout LNG SD40-2 conversion coming?? grant
A pair of Dash-9 helpers sitting in the hole after assisting a manifest up the 2.2%. These units were cut from the roster when SAR's latest order of SD70mac's came on-line. grant
I am planning on having the bridge section table top and a section to the west and east of it done and plastered by december. Once i get to that point I will be getting ready for paint, ground cover as well as getting the interstate in. I plan to do this rather large layout in two phases. Phase one will be starting from the west (kittitas) and continuing to the east to beverly. then phase two will continue from the east (beverly) to moses lake. A hidden operations set-up will bridge the layout together to complete a full circle between moses lake and kittitas. But i don't expect phases two to come anytime soon. I plan on creating certain key features (like my renslow trestle) to be built to scale. So you can see how large this thing is gonna be. However other areas along this old milwaukee route that i feel are not key features will be reduced due to space. When I get back home I post of picture of what my layout diagram looks like. The natural gas BN locos. I have both rd #'s painted and done along with the radiator flares. however i have not put the flares on. I really don't know why, i guess i just got my head wrapped upin this layout building at the time.
Jason, Glad to see 948 still pulling it's weight. I was concerned that the motor, being used to Canada, might spin backwards in your hemisphere Greg, I know what you mean about compressing the terrain east of Beverly. I drove the old right of way from Beverly back to Othello a few summers ago.... Talk about desolation. Neat area to model though West over the Saddle Mountains from Beverly to Kittitas. Your whole layout would be a helper district!! Glad to hear the Flared 40-2's are coming along. Looking forward to seeing them. LNG tenders next? grant
ah i forgot to tell you about the tender, i already have it done. however i don't have a picture of it. need to take one though when i get home. i plan on using dcc, so it being a huge helper district is going to very cool. the right of way fascinates me as well. there is something about it that i like, maybe its the huge long curves that are cut into the desert hills, and the fact of it all being in the middle of nowhere. this summer i went there and biked the ROW from kittitas to boylston. next summer i am going to go from doris to boylston. I want to take some buckets with me thought next time and get some of the ballast they used out there. it is pit run gravel and is very thin. might make a good representation for my layout!
Now we are talking. Great pic's of MU'd Lash Ups. Steam, well since they never MU'd we can say "Cut-In Together - Making The Pull". Those articulated's look good together. Nice job and what a compliment to the other auspicious thread.
