The part I've always hated is how long it takes to get it all together. Worked for many moons repainting and decalling PM 5 bay hoppers until I could get about a 50 car MoPac coal drag. Then I learned a bit more, and found out that the 5 bays weren't right for MP! Now I'm trying to get together a collection of TrainWorx hoppers (which, BTW, are beautiful kits) which are accurate for MP. Aargh!
Well, the problem is my stuff's in boxes in my basement in Colorado, and I'm in an old rail depot near the Syrian border, so... But I should be heading back in a few months, and then I promise (cross my two sizes too small heart) I'll get something!
Eagle 2 - look forward to seeing some photos, in the mean time anybody lese got pics of their unit trains?
That would be great Jason, dont forget our Rail Images site if you are looking for aplce to store your pictures online. Actually keep a watch for this space I may even have some pics for you real soon
Will this count as a Unit Train?? One of my latest additions. The 5 car set of Santa Fe Roadrailers from DeLuxe Innovations.
Those C30's look good Paul. I just love GE's of that period. Just a pity they are UP Maybe you should have Rio Grande tunnel motors on that train
Russell, No sorry it doesnt counr please remove the picture immediately lol. Of course it counts, an excellent shot and module.
And here's THE unit train railroad club members best associate with me!! A 25 car string of Model Power COORS beer reefers!! Traveling through newly added scenery. The scenery on the outside of the track is the latest. Added, and painted it, Sunday night. About 2AM!! During time with different N scale club, when this train was seen by BMRC members, they KNEW I was close by!! And here, an overhead shot, showing entire train, plus the general track layout. Being built as I go. No specific plan. Is this good enough, for a unit train ??
It does tend to get a few comments! More so, when folks find out that the reefers are no longer available. Yes, all converted to MT trucks/couplers. Wouldn't run 'em any other way! Locomotives are MT equipped, front only. Left Rapidos on back, as these units are my dedicated power for the Coors train. If I didn't want that many cars, I wouldn't have gotten them!! But, I can still make 2 short Coors unit Tank trains too!! Have 5 White Coors tank cars and 5 Silver Coors tank cars!! Original trucks/couplers yet. Also Model Power.
Thanks Keith, I agree with you MT couplers are the way to go. I'm hoping to take some pictures of Jason's unit train that is over 100 hoppers long. Jason uses draw bars in sets of 5. Keep a lookout for this topic
I convert any rapido trucks/couplers to MT ASAP. Sometimes, I'll get several with rapido, then buy a 10pack of MT trucks/couplers, depending on which variation I need! Sometimes, I'll get 2-3 packs, of different styles. For immediate use, or for later use. And in a few instances, replacements, after unwanted accidents, with a concrete floor! Although, the Atlas trucks/couplers are nice too. But, locomotives I have with Accumates, the trip pin(s) have fallen out on occasion. Not too many problems with the few cars I have though. Coupler shank is longer than desired but it works, and cars roll as good as, or slightly better than MT. My opinion, after seeing the rolling qualities of both.
Here's the one I like best, though still another 20 odd cars togo, this train really needs a couple of tunnel motors to finish it off. Thanks Paul for setting me up on Railimages. [ 24. January 2004, 02:37: Message edited by: Colonel ]
