I added another Oklahoma Shortline to my roster from the Oklahoma City train show Saturday. GP 10 by Intermountain it has DCC and sound. I also picked up some detail goodies for the layout. I am waiting for Woodland Scenics to release their new etched chain link fences. From what I have seen, they look pretty goood. Thanks for stopping in!

I used Pan Pastels and a make up brush. They have become my most favored medium for weathering now.
    Thanks for posting Mike!

Interesting to see the Farmrail locomotive. I looked over the Model Railroader article from years ago about the Grainbelt/Farmrail layout before I decided to try the Arkansas & MIssouri layout.

I remember that article. It seems they also had a track plan to go with it. It would be neat to come across it again.

A couple more shots of BKEP Asphalt Emulsion facility. The Farmrail GP10 is pulling a cut of cars out of Gavilon East behind it.

That GP 10 is a bit far from home. I was working out somecrossing issues on the spur and it was close. I may have to build a story line into the layout where SKOL is short on power and GrainBelt loaned them the 10.

I was sent a copy of the article last week. I remember when it cameour on MR. I should have built it long ago but I’m having fun with the Port.

    Thanks!

Dale, while not the most accurate story it works in my head. Since GrainBelt updated to GP38 and the 10's are now up for sale, maybe the port bought or leased it to not lose capacity as their current locomotives are going to need service/overhaul. This way they are testing it to make sure everything is reliable and ready to go before they take one of the old ones out of service.

Looks good Dale. Didn't Farmrail take over some old Frisco trackage? Part of the line that went down towards Vernon TX? I am so grateful OK didnt let them rip up all the trackage the RR's wanted to.
We have a rail served (UP) Asphalt distribution facility, crazy how many different kinds there are, again, you have another interesting modeling choice.

That GP10 has some different colors, and I concur with Colt's assessment as well, a very plausible theory.

Does it say "Kickapoo" on the nose just under the handrail? I can relate. When I gathered the cows for milking in our dairy barn I would try to kickapoo off my boots before I went to school.

    Hi Tom,

I am trying to collect some of our home grown roads locomotives. I’ve had my eye on the Farmrail one for a bit. Kickapoo is a tribe. A number of their locomotives were named for tribes in the state. I will send you a copy of the article I have on Farmrail after I send that signaling information. Our club has an operations session scheduled at the Layout with the signals we were talking about on Michaels thread. I plan to try my hand at assistant Dispatcher for the session, at least till they run me out on a rail!

Have a great Christmas everyone! Enjoy friends and family and I hope Santa is good to ya!!!!!

    Hi Kevin,

We’ve moved over to Town West Shopping Center with a 3 year lease. We have a footprint for a layout we all like and are working on getting a track plan going. Excellent time for you to join us!!!!

Thats great news for you guys Dale. And you have a little time to find a more permanent home. Is in a location in the mall that may bring you some viewing traffic?

    Hi Tom,

Actually it’s an out lying shopping center. We are half the size we had for the same rent. But we can afford it and it’s a decent place. We have chosen to go With prebuilt modules made by KamKonnect that lock together. We can build the layout so it can be easily dismantled if we have to move and not destroy it in the process.

We have a footprint figured out for the layout itself and are working towards a track plan that allows us to operate it or run it for railfanning (round and round).

Hey, have a Merry Christmas buddy!

A bit of fine detailing for a change, a concrete inlet for area drainage to get rid of the water from all these Oklahoma Monsoons we seem to get around here. As you can see, the guard rail is protecting it from being run over by loads of asphalt emulsion. This is the fun stuff!

That is some great detail Dale. How did you make that asphalt road? The texture looks spot on.

    Hi Tom,

You asked the other day about the Farmrail trackage in SW Oklahoma, I looked at some maps over at Frisco.org and the Frisco ran from Oklahoma City down through Chickasha, Lawton and on into Quanaha TX. So It does use some of the old Frisco.

The asphalt road in the photos is made from some sanded pre-mix tile grout I had left over from a project here at the house. This is what I bought at Lowe’s or HD a few years ago. It’s already wet so a just trowel it out. It stiff so I use a piece of plastic strip to smooth it. I then pat it wit a damp paper towel to knock down the high spots. I let it dry then paint it with cheap acrylic paint. In this case I used the Pavement color. I finally dusted it with Pan Pastel chalks to give it a dusty aged look. The edges came out a bit ragged but I’m ok with it. For finer texture, I use a non-sanded dry powder grout. I spread it out with a spoon, pat the top with my fingers to get it close to smooth out. I the spray it with wet water to saturate it out. I let it dry. It had adhesive in it so when dry it sticks down and together.

    Thanks,
    Dale

Port of Catoosa #555 is finishing up in the paint shop. Just a little bit left to do before decals and reassembly. The crew will be glad to have her back!

    BKEP Materials Asphalt Emulsion Facility.

Finally getting some things done. As soon as I can locate some of the new Woodland Scenics Chain Link Fence, we will install security!
