But according to Kato, it looks fine. At least that is what the rep said last year at WGH in Portland, Or.

My point exactly. The tunnels were specific to SSW, SP, and DRGW. Only 3 class 1s had them and as you said they sold well. So why wont Atlas or other mfgs for that reason make something that would fill a HUGE void in the N scale market?..............................because a mfg is going to build what THEY want to build, and NOT what us modelers would like to see.

But the mfgs are missing something bigger here. WE are the ones that make their paychecks for them.

I think it's apples and oranges. Cab-forwards are big, interesting looking steamers that have a lot of "novelty" appeal. I don't think the same could be said for a CF7. Just my two cents.

I'll go along with that, it's the same reason we don't see any 'normal' steam locos for UP or SP, or most other roads. If you model SP you've got to make do with GS4's and Cab Forwards in your steam era roster and for UP all you get are Big Boys and Challengers.

The problem I see with chop nose GP7/9's is that apart from the few made that way by EMD they were all custom built by the railroads and most were different from each other. Using the GP20 cab and short hood for example would not make an ATSF Topeka cab unit.
