John Signor wrote about this in his book Tehachapi on pages 57-58 with a map on page 59 of the proposed lines.

    Cajon/Andy, and all tuned in:

You are correct it is all one word...Horsethief Canyon. My understanding is there would have been a tunnel through the mountain from Tejon Canyon over to Horsethief Canyon. The native american side of my family was glad when Santa Fe worked things out with SP. Something about the canyon being sacred to the local Indians. But then I already said that...didn't I. Grin!

    To SSW9389,

It's interesting that John Signor, has already written in a book a refrence to this canyon. I wasn't aware that anyone else had a handle on this. I would be interested in reading his input. Looks like I will need to purchase his book...if it's still in print. Strange he hasn't responded to my e-mail and so adivised me. Oh well.

I appreciate the interest shown regarding this subject. I would encourage you to pick-up John Signor's book and compare what has been shared here on Trainboard and there is another discussion on Trainorders.com on the "Nostalgia Board" by the title of a "Where-z-it that's unusual" posted by "BarstowRick". You may have to do a search by putting in "BarstowRick" and the posts should come up. Unlike here they fall off the front page as other active posts take over.

I shouldn't tell on myself. Some refer to me as "Barstool" although the strongest drink my doctor will allow me to consume, is a Diet Dr. Pepper. Oh, and he prefers caffeine free. Ouch! I've never been one to get to excited about the suds. Not after working as a ambulance jockey as a teenager, then as a mortician through my young adult years.

Seems to me John and I may have collaborated on this topic, a number of years back. I have discussed this subject before with a number of Trainorders.com participants. It's been fun sharing this with you here on Trainboard. Kudo's to John and his staff at "the Warbonnet".

    Thanks again for the read.
