The presenter of this next video shot his video from locations I would pick to shot from. Further more he catches a UP Baretables train making the connector at Silverwood. Not many photographers have made that capture. Including me.

Those two parallel trains, moving at almost the same speed, is an odd sensation.

Just one train, but it's a nice setting. The way this is filmed, doesn't show the old depot at all. It is right behind the camera, and a unique structure. Too bad there was not a 360 made, as the Glacier Park Lodge would have shown in background:

Here is another single train. The poster mentions it is loud. Standing on the pedestrian bridge, right over those exhausts, it certainly can be that. As noted a few snowflakes in the air, which at this time of year is quite normal. Gorgeous place to be in the fall, on a sunny day. Tree colors can be wonderful:

I can't apologize for showing to much of Cajon Pass, Tehachapi and the Questa Grade.

This next one is the Cajon Pass region. Incidentally the rumor mill (emphasis on rumor) has it that as a part of a street project and auto bridge across the Mojave, somewhere near the Narrows, along with plans to three track the BNSF main. It will spell the end of the "Natural Crossover" which isn't natural at all but man made. There's no need to worry about right hand or left hand running aka bias, as trains will be moved through Cajon Pass, on the most efficient route available.

This next video comes from the desert canyon region of Arizona. Called by some the Little Grand Canyon. I would like to replicate the canyon walls on my model railroad.

After riding and chasing the Cumbres & Toltec in New Mexico, I headed to Arizona to ride and chase the Verde Canyon Railroad between Clarkdale and Perkinsville. "Little Grand Canyon" is the nickname for Verde Canyon, and the scenery was fantastic, enhanced by the pair of FP7s pulling the train.

About a month after this was filmed, we rode an excursion on this very line. The zoom makes track look worse than it seems. It was not good track. But nobody got seasick. Even tracks are though long gone now, this is the place I wish I could live in retirement, but cannot possibly afford it.

Ken, like you I wonder about some of these shortline fallen flags. Glad someone took the time to shoot some film and preserve the images.

To Everyone Else Tuned In: How about some Colorado footage?

If you haven't figured it out by now the D&RGW as well as other Colorado Railroads are favorites of mine.

Here is a sampler of Otto Perry's photography.

Several names are widely recognized as belonging to great railroad photographers. One of those names belongs to Otto Perry, a man who traveled the country, recording both still and moving pictures of our nation's railroad history. One of his favorites was surely the Denver and Rio Grande Western, and over the years, he filmed trains around this entire route. Machines of Iron, in cooperation with the Rocky Mountain Railroad Club, offers a look back at this "narrow gauge circle," produced from the film collection of this renowned railroad photographer.

I wonder if Dr. Emmet L. Brown, could make that happen for us? We must not disturb, "The time continuum!" I'd give anything to go back to 1949 and witness the era we call "Transition".

How recent is this video? Is the #3 up and running? I seem to recall a recent overhaul, which I am guessing was completed?

To Inspire you to take action over the closure of the state parks, and to encourage you to help by making the trip up here, this is the video of my trip to Railtown 1897 State Historic Park in Jamestown California on July 16th, 2011.

I've heard the same rumor but I haven't been able to talk to anyone that knows much about #3.

This from one of the volunteers or docents in Jamestown, Ca.,
SierraRailway -2 years ago in reply to Kenoracle
Never said people didn't care about our parks. It is unlikely that Railtown will close. We (the volunteers) are certainly not worried about it. We are currently working on rebuilding #28, hopefully this closure talk will not affect our progress. You must come up again to see our Sierra #3 and #28 operate some day. It's been a LONG time since they have operated together, it will be QUITE a sight when 28 is back again.

This next video may help you connect my comment about a time machine and Dr. Emmett L Brown with Jamestown, Ca. Perhaps some inside information on the locomotives...as well. I like the way this get's started.

A short documentary of a behind the scenes trip to Railtown 1897 State Park in California. Includes a visit to the 1800's machine shop still in use today, the restoration of a Steam Locomotive and a ride on the Preserved Sierra Railway.

Did anyone pick-up on the fact that they are a bunch of rivet counters? Did I really ask that?

There's a lot more going on there than I'd realized. Apparently their roster of all equipment is more than I knew. It also looks like they must be doing some contract work.
