Gavin, driving? It will happen faster then you might think possible.
Mike, before I forget it was good to look into Abo Canyon and see what was going on there. Your video's will no doubt be in demand as model railroaders look for what types of train cars and equipment is tied on behind what we think of as modern day diesels. Thanks again for sharing your videos.

Are you up to one more steam engine. Getting boring? Wait till you see this next video.

From the Nevada Northern in Eli, Nevada.

Interestingly enough, that's about a dead ringer for what we were taught in the service as "close distance and stop." Gives the operator a good idea of relative distance in tight confines.

Following up on Mike Fifer's submission, Abo Canyon. How about a cab ride?

What's a choke point? It's where three tracks merge into one. You are about to see that happen.

I had seen that one before and I would point out this was prior to the now double track. You are able to see some prepping going on on the left side for the double track. Our video was shot just to the left at the bottom of the bridge overpass at the top.

Miles and miles of miles and miles. No wonder fatigue is such a factor. I was trying to imagine what it must have been like if aboard a steamer, pounding along!

If memory serves me correctly that was the last bottleneck on the BNSF.

Yes , I think it was. They fly through there now but now they do not seem to have enough fueling racks in Belen to handle the busiest traffic.

Maybe you were meaning this was just on the Chicago to LA route? They do have other areas which are messes right now.

Not quite a video, but a great slide show of things I remember when still a boy:

Some impressive spark arrestors in that collection, have to imagine they were more than necessary. And that snow-draped compound is beautiful!

Those old Mallets were fun to watch at work. Really interesting to be in the cab. When sitting still, and their air pumps would fire up, the whole thing shook.

Yes. The old ash can arrestors were very necessary. Every summer, forest fire danger was quite real. They'd have fire cars out with every train.
