Second the Motion! I Second the Motion as I have never seen any of his vehicles or the propane tank. If anyone has photos, please post them to this message thread!!! Hobo Tim
Kim, I have to say the Ambassador seem to have the worse finish of all the MK4D products. I have boxcars that show no lines at all.
Is that poor finish from the model, or from a rough coat of paint though? Looks like there is foreign material stuck in the paint.
It's the definition of the picoliter droplet size and coating used that limits the process to printing fine detail or legible text to 4-5 pt.
If I were....... If I were home, instead of on the road working, I'd whip out some of my MakeMyModel and Searails vehicles and post close-up photos, relative to the size that John posted the Ambasador vehicle from M4D. I think EVERYONE would see a great difference in RP material used to create them. Take a closer look at the Ambasador. Remember, cars of this era still had the front, driver and passenger, door windows that were divided in two pieces. For the most part the squared off window would roll up and down while the triangular forward piece, closest to the front windshield, was stationary, or could be rotated into the wind to circulate outside air, inside. Notice how you can SEE the line that divides the two windows on the front passenger door!!! Look closely as you can miss it!!! I'd say that line is thinner than a human hair. Now, John, correct me if I am wrong, but is that a standard wooden toothpick that you are using to hold up the Ambasador car for the photo? WOW, nice detail! I too see the small minute debris in the paint job on this car. (I doubt John had the dough to send it to a professional body shop for a quality airbrushing) I also see the slight lines of variation in the material on the side body of the car. I also know that NO ONE, at any train show or other place, will inspect one of my vehicles with close scrutiny and have only negative-to-neutral things to say about them, and nothing positive at all. No One!!!! Just can't see it happening. This is Z scale, not Proto:Z!!! Until you have had to scrape the gunk off of and used files and sand paper to smooth a vehicle purchased from MMM or Searails, you just haven't lived!!!! Hobo Tim Don't Knock-it, until you've tried it!!
I never bought "Make My Model" cars, but was interested. What I see on the picture is cars in heavy snowstorm. Here we are under the down limit in quality, much better things exist in cast materials. With no precleaning and restrictions for painting. MO Miniatur in Germany makes phantastic new items, with about 40 etched parts in Z-Scale. Such fine structures will never be possible with the printer.
Donnell, What did you have them do for you? Could they reduce an HO or N scale item to Z? John Bartolotto
