Progress After seeing the close ups from Robert I decided to thin the horizontal lips on the upside of the car so they look a bit more delicate. I also worked out a load casting and did some fussing about with the coupler pocket. Like I noted before this is a first pass, now I make it look nice and start casting again. Don't quote me yet, but I belive TTX is the first release in February. These were some Masking Rejects, can't figure out why, but they looked just fine all guffed up. Anyway, I will confirm the release tomorrow. Joe
Wery nice weathering.. I have weathered about 80% of my rolling stock with acrylic paint, but now that i have started to use pastels/powder, i really regret that i used acrylics! Powder weathering is so much better!!! I hope the 60" flat car is a Feb release, im think i can make a quite good MOW car out of it.
I can see an opportunity here... It looks like a laser cut wood deck might be a perfect enhancement, as nothing looks like wood... but wood!
You said wood... ) Yea, if you can get it thin enough it would add quite a bit to it. You might want to consider doing some of the other decks, like the ones used to haul heavy equipment with the runners down the center. Here's another shot.
i was noticing the tractor (orange in the first photo, yellow in the latest photo). will those be a future load from MTL or is that something you made. looks nice. i'd like to know if it is (or will be ) available to the populus. dave f.
I got some stuff called paperwood that is about .010" thick that I can experiment with. Add some 3M 465 transfer adhesive and it will be .012" thick. Think that is too much?
Is that all you noticed???? Keep looking The tractor is from Sea Rails. I'm converting it to a pipe layer with the side braces. I cut up a 40' flat and am making a center depressed flat car to do a MOW car like the UP has.
Laser.. That might work Robert, but you can also use the transfer tape used for applying vinyl signs. You need a light touch...but that might be too thin though. You can cut that vinyl too, the low performance stuff is about .006 if I remember correctly,,,again a light touch with the laser and you could get some fine work done. I've used that for window frames on study models to good effect. I even did a resort model at Disney where I applied the white vinyl to 1/16 acrylic, scored the surface and peeled off the stuff I didn't want and had window frames already mounted to acrylic. Those were paced behind window openings. Worked really well. I'll send down a couple of blanks to play with. Joe MTL
Joe, Execellent photo! Would you be so kind as to tell us the length and width of the car body in inches or millimeters? John
Here is a shot of one of my MOW cars. I took one of our Gons, cut part of it down for the Sea Rails Tractor. I am making a new scoop for the front right now so the pistons are just hanging. This is part of a Washout team car (we get those here in Oregon) set that will have a tank car, a few flats with sections of our flex track staged and probably one of my PS2 Hoppers with the roof cut off for a ballast car.
