Because of the type of plastic that straws are, you should try a contact cement. Most plastic glues will melt the straws. I found this out the hard way. JMS
You might like to look at this thread http://model-railroad-hobbyist.com/node/23327 Chris has added some more, and different, wrappers - see page 2 entry "More Wrap Graphics ". If you can't get Chartpak tape for strapping, (seems to be unobtainable here in UK) look on ebay for "Nail Tape" - the stuff the girlies use for decorating their finger nails - it comes from Hongkong and is "cheap as chips" - get black or silver for the strapping. Some sellers want to send assorted colours - others allow you to pick colours you want - like this eBay item number: 261917532026
Re my post above - just found some more wrapped loads on this page http://www.railroad-line.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=44257
I'm been so busy lately, haven't checked into this thread much.... WOW! This has to be one of the best threads on TB.
This is a Exactrail bulkhead flat with those little metal tie wires they use for flowers. There is like 10 packages on this load to simulate re-bar. I worked on this off and on for about 3 years. Started before the Exactrail car even came out. Anyways a couple photos. The prototype photos were taken by me in GJ. I made the loads to be removed. Maybe some day I will put wood on the deck, but right now, its just good enough. Thanks for looking, TDH
This thread continues to impress me. Now I really must put some of these ideas to work on my layout. About time I got some loads for flats and gons!
Well, I have a couple others to share... First, we have a Gondola with a scrap load. The load is processed... having been sheared and crushed into cubes(sort of). The loads are just crumpled foil wrap painted black, then gray, then silver to highlight all the grooves and angles. Second, is a MoW flat(still in Conrail markings) with a load of rail. This is one of the cars that gets sent to my RIP track that is not actually getting work done. Enjoy! JMS
