Thanks Bob. Ok, needs touchup... Paint rocks.. Brush off ground foam, to heavy.. Ballast is to light, didn't cover.. Thanks, Loco1999
Ok, still needs touchup... Bushes, trees, gravel, etc... I think I am going to get the whole layout to this point: foam shape with rocks track and ballast paint and ground foam Then I will attempt to detail it in eight sections over time. So what do you think? Thanks, Loco1999
Loco1999: That's a logical approach in detailing your layout. I usually like to finish one small section at a time before I go on to another area of the layout.
Loco1999: That looks great. It's amazing what lighting will do for you. Did you resolve the 4-8-2 and the problems with the tender wheels being in proper gauge? What about the 2-8-0?
Loco1999: Looks like that Santa Fe station from American Model Builders would fit right in that footprint. They also make a UP style station: They also have a SP combo type 23 depot:
Thanks, Both spectrums are running good now. Tender wheels... may order those Kato wheels. ( If I ever want to drive them in reverse. ) I will keep those stations in mind. They look great. Loco1999
Looking great!!!! What a difference from the bare foam, eh? (hope you like how it looks too). And when you get to it.... backdrop? Keep up the great work.
Loco1999: Looks great. You have certainly done a lot in a week. I think the foam is such a great improvement over the earlier methods of scenery. You should know what you want on the layout and the forum should tell you how to do it. About 1972, I entered a diorama in an NMRA contest. It was the only diorama entered and it won third place! You read that correctly, it won third place. But, I made it all in a vaccuum without any help or feedback. So, I had no idea what I had when I finished. Model railroaders used to join clubs to get this information, but the forum here has provided all that feedback for you. Anyway, your layout is far better than anything I ever did as a beginner. It really looks great. The important thing to know is what you want and keep raising the standard to get there. It always makes you a better modeler. Bear Bryant: We may not ever be able to be perfect, but we can never be the best without trying to be perfect. Sort of the same idea for modeling.
Thanks Guys. Yes, the forums are making all of the difference for me. They are like a club. A few months ago... I like the progress. Thanks for all of the advise, ideas, and feedback. Thanks, Loco1999
