I should clarify a bit, I was meaning tiger striped locomotives of any type appeared to last that long.
No problem there Andrew perfectly understood Thanks for pointing out this detail Bremner regards stefano
Hi Guys as far as the atlas model of the RSD-4/5 SP concerns with the tiger stripes/aluminium ends paint schemes as it is I think it was delivered with this paint scheme [delivery date 1953] In your opinion Can this loco be prototopical for the time period 1953-1960 [retired 1960] in this tiger stripes/aluminiums ends paint scheme ? thanks so much stefano
with that number, I doubt it. It would most likely be in Widow by 1960. I would renumber it to a T&NO unit
Hi Bremner Was it delivered in 1953 in tiger stripes/aluminium ends ? Until when would be prototopical to see this RSD-4/5 in this paint scheme ? thanks stefano
Stefano, the RSD's were delivered in 1953 in road tiger stripes. Loco's that ran on th west coast/Tucson Division were repainted quickly to Black Widow not long later. http://espee.railfan.net/nonindex/rsd05_photos/5298_sp-rsd5-yardclerk.jpg and were being repainted into Bloody Nose soon after. http://espee.railfan.net/nonindex/rsd05_photos/5306_sp-rsd5-don_jewell.jpg
Thanks Bremner nice pics appreciated When you say quikly not long later how long is that later? In your opinion how long did it last on this locos before black widow repainting ? thanks again stefano
can't really say, BUT the first roadswitcher painted into Black Widow was #4800, in Dec. 1953, and the Bloody Nosewas introduced in 1958....and I have seen very few of the SP (non-TN&O) RSD's painted in Road Switcher tiger stripes, I would guess 2-3 years before their first paint job. By 1960, allof the RSD5's were in either Texas or Louisiana
Thanks again Bremner your guess should place this RSD-4/5 SP in a prototopically correct time span of the MID 1950's thanks again stefano
