Jim, the depth of field is amazing, I thought you started using Helicon or some other software. Of course, you couldn't get amazing shots without the amazing modeling; just great work! Regards, Otto K. Modeling Cajon Pass circa 1950
Otto, I DO use Helicon, but not with the phone...would have to be tripod mounted. I could probably get CLOSE to what the phone does, using HF and a front surface mirror, but those cell shots took less than five minutes! (there were eleven shots in all, plus three by the main camera - I always shoot many more than I show.
A couple more of those low shots - here, a southbound Z train passes CP East Oakville bound for Mojave - in reality, it will loop around the Oakville yard and become a northbound...
Super shots! Is that all static grass or is there some yellow turf in there on the hillsides? It looks so real I can't tell. Jamie
All static, Jamie. A blend of 3 WS colors. I painted first using a gold custom color, that way any light areas won't show up...
Dave, some of last week's shots were using the cell. It's an LG 800G...I shot a couple this week but didn't like 'em compared to the Panny...
An Employee Appreciation train is running on the Sub today. He's just passed Wedding Cake Curve northbound... A bit farther along: The train is run in appreciation that all cars on the Sub are now equipped with metal wheels and resistors! Another project finished!
Your pictures always amaze! I found some of your youtube video's as well, very nice work with the sound in them.
Thanks, JJ... I need to think about doing some more video now the signals are active...The sound is what you get from a retired Audio Engineer...It feels REALLY good putting the skills back to work occasionally.
Today I'm at one of my favorite places to watch trains on the Sub - the crossovers at Caliente. An auto rack train heads south: And a shot from the other side, backlit and all there's something I like about this photo.. Merry Christmas to All!
Jim, That backlit photo is very surreal looking. If you could tone down the brightness/contrast in the center section (on empty track), but keep those highlights on the tops of the cars and trees, it could be really cool. I like the night-time effect on the backdrop photo.
The Oakville switch crews got a nice Christmas present - a pair of freshly outshopped GP38-2s. Now they'll have a bit cooler working conditions under that California sun...
David, they own the road...just that BNSF runs a lot more trains...and Oakville is representative of that. And thanks, Jerry!
I guess it had to happen sooner or later...below is the result of a wheelset shorting out. It WAS resistor equipped, so that probably had something to do with it. Nothing special, the booster began beeping intermittently and I couldn't figure out why until I saw smoke coming from an autorack... It happened in the middle of the duck under bridge - a good place at any rate. All my zones pass the quarter test easily. Hope this doesn't become a regular occurrence!
Sorry to hear that, I am glad it is under control. Picture is gone so I am not sure what it looked like. I have a melted truck on an SD40 because someone threw the turnout while it was traversing the turnout. No smoke but then also no more movement of the truck!
