Been updating, repairing, weathering some locos and rolling stock over the past month or so. The BN SD40C before some mods. Now after some upgrades like eliminating the old Blue box side sill shell mounting lugs, converted to coupler box mounting. and updated Cat exhaust and ETD antenna placement, based on some images that were uploaded since I built this thing. And now some mods to the BN SD40-2 7149, one of two SD40-2's modified for a short time to run on LNG. The Burlington Northern decal on the E side long drooping towards the rear had given me heartburn for years, so I decided to fix it. That turned into a real pain in the ***, but it was worth it. As built. Now fixed up and weathered up a little, didn't want to dirty this one up too much. I actually caught this unit on a STODEN a few months after I modeled it. We were rotting away in the siding at Plain about 20mi west of DV, I carried that old Chinon 35mm film camera with me and got a few images of the 9 SD40-2's we had on the train. Of course I noticed the top of the cab was actually black and not Green, so while I had it apart I masked off the hood and painted the Inertial filter housing, cab roof black, the nose was already black. Those little things one wouldn't know unless they had the roofer madness images. Maybe I post those images on another post, reached the limit on this one.
Beautifully done! I must be one of a few Frisco folks that actually liked the looks of the BN painted SDs.
Yea, some Frisco guys are still sore about the merger. But man, it was over 40 years ago. BN has been gone over 25 years.
Back in the early 1990's, before I even got a job with the RR, I saw this car sitting at at the White Water concrete complex. Now there isnt a model of the car had to ct a couple bays out of a similar car to get the correct car, then painted it and applied all those letters individually, any ways a lot of years ago. The prototype; My attempt in HO scale, around 30 years ago.
Excellent. Love the LNG loco. Have you got the tank was well? Great seeing your work as always Tom. M RAINIER GREAT WESTERN RAILROAD
Thanks Dale and Mike for the comments. Mike, no sir, I didnt model the LNG tender, there was enough mill work just to build the locomotive LOL. It was a fairly complex loco to model a lot of Cannon & Co and other parts on this old BB Athearn.
I've always wanted to build both, even have the decal set for it. But alas, too many other projects. RAINIER GREAT WESTERN RAILROAD
