I saw this here: http://www.wig-wag-trains.com/Newspages/NewsPage.htm Is there a known list of serial numbers? Other than a broken strobe light what else might be wrong? I have two undecs and at the moment no track set to test them. I could set up some track if I should be looking for other issues. As always, I am very pleased that my main vendor and Kato are on top of things.
How was the nesting in the box? This leads me to believe it would be a visable broken thing, like the strobe. With shipping being the only clue that can anything from factory to your door step and the shipping container in between.
I had some on order at my LHS. They returned most of their first shipment because they ran poorly. Some power contacts weren't making contact and the motors were much too noisy. I just heard over the weekend that the replacements are in so I'll be picking up my three this weekend.
I have the A-A set, but no place to run them yet... My units seem AOK on the strobes, nothing broken.
It's good that a dealer like Wig-Wag has pointed out this potential issue and offered to take care of it. Harold
The major problem that has been reported is that the motor may be displaced from the mounts causing a no-run condition. Speculation centers around a sharp blow during shipping being the cause, coupled with Kato's change in packaging. All three of mine from Wig-Wag were in perfect condition.
Jim stated it correctly. The motor mount clip s/b able to be pushed back in place (gently) and the motor should snap back in. Some did have broken strobe lights.
Thanks Jim and George! I'll set up a circle of track and see what happens. Some day those pups are going to wear Great Northern EB Snoopy Dance [ September 28, 2005, 06:45 PM: Message edited by: Grey One ]

Bob I took it all down couple of nights ago. I’ll be buying the sealer tomorrow. Track should be up by the weekend.
Steve there are no serial numbers for N-Scale equipment. It would be nice but who would register them with the manufacturer or actually keep records of thier own?
Bob, Do you mean I don't have to remove the foam from the wood? The sealer won't melt the foam? (ignore the PM I just sent) George Thanks, good to know.
Nelson To prevent warping It will help the apearance. At some point I'll put up a facia but that will be a while.
Steve, It will make it prettier, but sealing or painting will actually do nothing to prevent warping. In fact unless you can get an equal coat on all sides of a board it can actually make it warp when it otherwise would not have. If your benchwork has been erected for at least a few months it has probably warped all that it is ever going to. That is why in the custom cabinet/furniture making business we try and buy our lumber at least a year in advance of its use. If you can only coat one side I would recomend a latex paint as this will allow the wood to "breath" and reduce the stress that coating one side with an oil based finish can cause. Nelson
I finally test ran my pair of F40s and one sounds horrible, like it has a bind in the gears, the other won't even move. Back to BLW they go......
