The NYC and S&A units are supposed to be headed to Conway for setup, not sure where they are now though.

Fresh out of the shop in Muncie, NS presents SD70ACe 1069 "Virginian". Another great looking loco!

By now perhaps a few folks have started understanding why some of us miss the older days. All the beautiful and varied paint schemes which once roamed the main lines. While there are still a good number today, if you count the spinoff shortlines, etc, few seem to have the class of these NAMES spelled out. Leasers and initials just don't quite measure up. Back then, these were very bold statements of pride in ownership and company. "This is who we are"!

Well said, Boxcab. I was so disappointed when Southern let Amtrak take over passenger ops in '79 and then merged with N&W(nothing against them) back in '82. I really haven't done much railfanning since...UNTIL NS started these heritage units. Now I want to go all the time just in hopes of catching the sight of one. Between these and the revival of the steam program, I am now a Norfolk Southern fan!

Agreed! Fortunately the NS is close by. I have a scanner in my shop and can usually hear the train 5 miles down the road, so getting in the Jeep and getting a picture isn't too hard. I'm also impressed at how well these modern locomotives look with the old schemes, beautiful work!

I am thinking of that UP 1996 SP Heritage locomotive here, a screwball blend of nearly every diesel scheme SP ever ran.

I wish someone could now, somehow, convince CSX to follow this lead. Maybe then we would see them do such as ACL, SAL and.....

Agreed. I really wish BNSF would do this. I think the CB&Q chinese red would look great on an SD70.

If only Pan Am would consider this. Love to see B&M Minute Man on any power, I'm not picky. Though I'd take an ABBA brace of FTs or F3s in a heartbeat.

I agree. I would love to see the SCL or the Chessie kitten riding the rails again.

Hank, they did. Springfield Terminal #77, GP9 was repainted in the Maroon and Gold multistripe with the Minute Man. They have done a Maine Central and are working on a McGinnis Blue, Black and White GP9.

According to Trains New Wire Wabash 1070 is done and should be out tomorrow! RDG and Erie units will be headed South to Chatanooga tonight and CNJ should be out this week. The final 6 units will be headed to Spencer in a special train to make it to the family portrait, and NS 1030 will be the modern representation of NS at Spencer.

That Wabash unit looks fabulous! I can't wait to see the photos of these all assembled in one place.

I know Nickel Plate & Wabash used to be competitors against each other, but wouldn't it be something to see the NKP and WAB "Heritage" units on the point of a fast freight somewhere in Indiana, Illinois or Missouri?
