Nice trap. Can't think of any better ways to get trapped, at least none that don't go outside the scope of this forum...
When in a line of cars stopped for an approaching long train, do y'all ever shut off your engine, exit your car and walk up toward the gate to wave at the crew and enjoy the sensory overload of a passing train? I sometimes do and wonder what the other motorists are thinking.
Oh, yeah! I can imagine the other motorists thinking, "He probably works for the railroad.". Especially if I'm wearing one of my CN baseball caps...
The looks I generally receive from other motorists are 'oh no. Another escapee from the local mental institution...'
You get rain occasionally. I haven't had significant, if any rain for over a month. I doubt if Russell has either. Worries me that the massive high pressure dome over us won't go away until there's a hurricane in the Gulf. A cat-one would be just fine. Just so it stuck around long enough to break down the high. Sorry. This topic should be in the Cattle Car. But what we all have had is ridiculous.
Isn't that the inspiration for "the rain in Spain falls mainly on the train"? Looks like it's not just in Spain... Nice photo! It must have all been sent up here, like lost airplane luggage. We're getting deluged regularly.
And here is that train above coming through the rain. A UP crushed stone job that came down the BNSF from the old MKT line in Sealy, Texas and is now taking the interchange track at Tower 17 in Rosengerg to get back onto UP tracks. The UP Sunset Route is the line heading out to the left.
Been a dry summer (in ND and for me railfan-wise), but the skies have drenched us recently. A grain load gets underway at Soo Tower in a light drizzle:
Oh, oh, that train looks like it's only about a mile away. I better stop. I don't think I can make it across in time. Doug
NS 261 heads West out of the mist and drizzle from Wyomissing JCT last Tuesday the 26th. The Penn Central heritage unit is spliced between another EMD and a GE.
Me three. Maybe they're taking the heritage thing to a new level - trying to look more prototypical for the PC era: plenty of grime and a generous sprinkling of neglect!
