    Thanks

Send me an email and I can send you it. Also, tell me what file type would be best for you to read. I have it right now as TIF, JPG, or Autocad.

    Jeff,

I told you that people would like it. It sure beats me trying to keep the layout a square/"E" design layout. I will be going to the club this coming Friday and show it to everyone to see what they think. I showed my wife and she was impressed. She says we should go ahead and use this plan as the one to build. It does not interfer with her laundry area [IMG]

Here is a another question for you, how did you get the drawing to be so little when posting it? I put mine in ADOBE ACROBAT but still came out huge. Any suggestions on how to crop it so it is not really big for future posts?

I used the "SAVEIMG" command in AUTOCAD and saved it as a TIF file (uncompressed). But first I set my drawing background to white and I changed all of the lines to black, then I did SAVEIMG as a TIF. I then opened the TIF in CORAL DRAW, Adobe will work also, and did, EDIT, RESAMPLE. With RESAMPLE you can set the width to what ever you want. Make sure you check the box to maintain the ratio of width to height.

    Jeff,

I took your design to the club last Friday everyone loved it. Some of them wanted to used it for their own. On guy looked at it and said I want that program meaning he wants Autocad. I told him it was not the program that created it. Some asked if you do this kind of thing a lot. I said i did not know. Thanks for your help.

Thanks. I don't do it alot, I'm just a track plan junkie. I have always liked studing track plans and collecting them.

I think I may have forgot to tell you an Idea I had about the trains from staging. My thought was that if you had a train of (for the sake of easy math) 14 cars on a east bound mainline freight and a 14 car west bound train mainline freight, you could have half of their car's (7) waybills designate that they are for delivery to local industries. The rest of the cars on the train would just be run through for towns not modeled. So when the east bound arrived in the yard, the local switcher would pull 7 cars and add any east bounds that the local freights brought in. the train would then depart the yard and head into staging for a while. Later when the next east bound is needed, you can rotate all of the way bills on the same east bound train and now the waybills that once said runthrough are now for local delivery and the cars that you just picked up the last time that train ran, those car's waybills said for it to continue on as runthrough cars. The same could be done for the West bound train. By doing this you get to run the same train twice which would reduce the amount of staging tracks you would need and the amount of road power you will have to have. What happens is you get four trains for the price of two.

That town "C" could be a very interesting place to be. There is the possibility of a local freight working the town, a local train returning from town "D" waiting at the jct of his branch and town "C", and a west bound freight waiting on the passing siding for the East bound train to pass through town as it leaves staging. Then the west bound could depart town and head to staging, then the local from town "D", etc... It could get really fun in town "C".

I could see having about four guys running trains and a fifth guy dispatching with a magnetic board to keep track of trains. If you went DCC and headset radios you could have some big time railroading happening.

The plan is to have atleast four guys to operate. There are about five or six of us who get together about every four weeks to operate trains and each others house. this would be a great addition to the round robin operating.

Wow! that plan Coaltrain did was pretty neat! Sometimes getting a new perspective on an idea can really be cool. I think that plan uses the space very well. Tell the fellow at your club that a fancy computer program like AutoCAD can only do so much for you, what matters more is to have a good designer that has a real grasp of the subject, (talent!). Kudo's to you Coaltrain, your love of trackplans is very easy to see in this plan. [IMG]
