In Memory of Bob Woods we thought it would be nice to start things off this weekend with a shot from his album. Here is a cool yard shot picked out by Flash Blackman.
Here is another shot from LongTrains (Bob Woods) album. He shot this photo for me from his club, saying that this scene reminded him of my layout, the JJJ&E: Take care my friend..... Stay cool and run steam with LONGTRAINS.....
This is the scene on the JJJ&E that LongTrain compared to the SunNSand scene above: Take care my friend.... Stay cool and run steam with LONGTRAINS..... [ October 14, 2005, 06:36 PM: Message edited by: Powersteamguy1790 ]
Hey, This is for LT.The 2 SD-45's are pulling a 30 cars coal drag & the E-8's have the 10 car"Lake Cities".Godspeed LT
Here is a picture that caught Bob's attention. He liked aircraft and this shot of a beaver float plane brought back some memories for him.
Here is a shot of a few DL&W RS3's heading west through Nay Aug Tunnel into Scranton. The track arrangement is pre-1955. Hurricane Diane ripped through the area in 55 and flooded the main out. This track was all gone due to flood waters rushing through the tunnel instead of underneath the track through the culvert. I never really finished this scene unfortunately. The details would have really made this look cool. The tunnel portals are scratchbuilt. For whatever reason, the portal that the RS3's are coming out of always looked new and the other portal next to it looked washed out. Today, the tunnel looks exactly the same except for girder bridges which replaced the culvert. The track arrangement was also changed so that two tracks used the northern bore (which is where the RS3's are) and the south bore was abandoned. This was always one of my favorite railfanning spots on the layout. The E8's with the MARS light always looked cool coming through the tunnel. Scott Lupia Mike, nice shot. I like the Bi-centennial.
Great pics folks ! Here are 2 pics from my new layout : work in progress... nothing is totally finished, i still have to add trees, ballast the may lines, and many other things.... comments welcome. My album Seb.
always much to do on the railroad. Taking some time to get the local workforce in place. Here is some road construction to access the industries on the fringe: And some icing going on for the few perishables that are grown in this area: and the BearCat MOW crew setting the icicle breakers for the snow crew...going to be an early winter...
Pacific finally on flat ground. LLL to raise freight rates. Too much coal burned going up the mountains.
SD7 as SP5325 is one of two engines painted in the gothic boxcar lettering. It is 1959 and the "Lark grey and red" paint scheme is still experimental. Of course, the Roman lettering was eventually adopted. Thanks to ATSF Arizona for the shell; I finally got around to the project!
Bob, this is for you: Brand new units lead stacks at Dale Junction, WY on Sherman Hill today: A quartet of UP power leads stacks thru an S-curve west of Buford, just short of the 8015-foot summit:
Hemi: Great rocks on picture #1. They really dwarf the train. Wait!! They really vertically challenge the train. Sorry...
Flash - I used the De-bonder stuff for getting the CA off of hands and other body parts...it always turned white so I figured it would turn the plastic white as well...varying times give a varying translucent effect....does not show in pictures but some are like ice cubes..nice effect.
Here is a view of the commercial corridor on my layout The unsung heros of railroading [ October 15, 2005, 11:21 PM: Message edited by: Dan Crowley ]
This pictures shows different rail sizes. At the foreground the right turnout is made of code 55, other track is made of code 70. The track before and behind the relay box is code 83. All other track is code 70. You can see the difference? If not, try the bigger picture. Happy toooot Wolfgang
