Thanks Bob! For weathering the trucks I: • Paint the trucks with Folk Art Charcoal Gray. • Drybrush them with Folk Art Burnt Sienna • Drybrush them with Folk Art Asphaltum When I am weathering the car I airbrush the bottom of the covered hoppers and their trucks with several quick passes of: • Folk Art Charcoal Gray thinned 1:1 with blue windshield wiper fluid. • Folk Art Raw Umber thinned 1:1 with blue windshield wiper fluid. • Folk Art Country Twill thinned 1:1 with blue windshield wiper fluid. For the CRP hoppers I used the following for the airbrushing: • Folk Art Charcoal Gray thinned 1:1 with blue windshield wiper fluid. • Folk Art Raw Sienna thinned 1:1 with blue windshield wiper fluid. • Folk Art Country Twill thinned 1:1 with blue windshield wiper fluid. The LNE hoppers and the caboose: • Folk Art Charcoal Gray thinned 1:1 with blue windshield wiper fluid. • Folk Art Raw Sienna thinned 1:1 with blue windshield wiper fluid. The Erie gondola: • Folk Art Charcoal Gray thinned 1:1 with blue windshield wiper fluid. • Folk Art Raw Umber thinned 1:1 with blue windshield wiper fluid.
Tom: The Folk Art Asphaltum, is that similar in color to grimy black? I've looked for that particular color in several craft stores and came up empty. What color is Country twill similar to? Thanks.... Stay cool and run steam.....
Yesterday my order of trainworx hoppers arrived. Today I assembled them and put them straight to work.
Bob- Just the right amount of dustiness. Looks very good. I can probably score a few doses of Asphaltum for you at my local supplier. Please let me know.
Bob- I had to kick the walker out from under a frail elderly woman and ripped the asphaltum out of her hand to secure your supply. Where do you want it shipped? How much insurance shall I place on it? So that your mind remains at ease, I can open it and brush some on a shirtback and take another picture so you will know you are getting the "real deal". Condition is NIB
Mark: Thanks ... I found some this afternoon from that same old lady with the walker. She must have flown to Jupiter after you you scared the living s--- out of her. I managed to find some Country twill as well.. I'll send you my address ... Stay cool and run steam....
I hope I didn't cause her arthritis to flare up again when I pried the paint from her hand. Obviously, I DO have a soft spot in my heart for old ladies, you know. I regret, however, that while she was screaming for the store manager, her dentures fell out, knocked against the bottle of CA in my hand causing it to break and then crash to the floor with the teeth. While I was walking to the checkout line with YOUR paint, she was trying desperately to separate the teeth from the floor, but, alas, I had attempted to purchase the instant bonding kind and not the 30 second product. Funny thing is when I saw her here in Florida, she couldn't open her mouth. Apparently the dentures that you poured the CA into went right back in her mouth. The fire dept and police were in the Craft store trying to pry open her mouth. When they finally removed the dentures , she cried out that she wanted to find a lawyer... Needless to say she's flying back to NY as we speak.... to look for her bottle of Folklore Asphaltum.. for her caboose trucks. Stay cool and run steam......
Paul Nice looking work train! Mark You beat to the posting of the paint bottle. I was heading down to the basement to do a exposé on Asphaltum and Country Twill but you stole my thunder. Now if either you or Bob see Folk Art Amish Blue let me know. The stores around here don’t carry it any longer and rumor has it that Plaid is not making it any longer. I use it for rock coloring, roofs, roads, and a host of other things. BTW I think that old lady was up here and tried to run me down in the AC Moore parking lot today.
Tom: I'll check the Craft Store when I'm there next week. That old lady carries a pretty mean umbrella. Stay cool and run steam.....
Man do I miss being able to run trains and work on my layout other then pack stuff up for sale. Really good looking pictures from all tonight. I did breakdown and get an F7 AB set in SP Black Widow. It's not me, honest, Bob PSG made me do it. It's an Athearn Genesis. Nice looking set but the sound is from MRC and well, not up to QSI standards but not totally bad. I set it on the old, now void of trains N scale layout for a little background. I was surprised that in the Genesis Athearn would use 1.5 volt bulbs and not LED's. The Gyra light looks a little funky so I may have to change to LED's. The side grills are really very nice. They will look good pulling an extra of refers! Now I need to decide if I want another AB set so I can really have a bit of pulling power.
Chad: The SP HO F-7's do look very nice. Sorry to hear about the sound in the loco. Does anyone else make an SP F-7 in HO? Have fun.... Stay cool and run steam.....
As always some truly great work displayed this week. I finaly got around to uploading a few pics. I did some custom decals, mainly for vehicles. here is a private trucker's rig and the cable TV van. Also a new LBG Stone Container car has joined the Apache Railway cars coming out of the cardboard mill. The pOlice have a new Z 28 interceptor The boys at the body shop have created another movie repli-car for Ms. Jae. I've finally aquirred a set of the elusive Dick Tracy cars. I'm sure some collector is gonna freak when I change out the wheels and lower these down a bit (may keep one high like a "gasser" hot rod). What I really like is each grill is different. I also decaled my fuel tanker and painted the cab green. Still needs it's "plow" and aircleaner/mirrors/exhaust stacks. Garbage truck project is currently on hold.
Mike- Enjoy. Ballou- I like that three building set behind the law enforcement. Tom- Although I sometimes forget to turn my underwear inside out each morning of a day that ends in a "Y", even at my advanced age, I seem to remember seeing the Amish Blue this morning just before that selfish ***** starting yelling at me and flapping her gums. I will check when A.C. Moore opens at 11. I feel like George Carlin. I was automatically censored by the program. I meant to say a word that roughly equates to a female dog instead of five asterisks.
