You know what they say, Christmas comes but once a year. So... why not get a head start on this week's Foto Fun? Here are a few pics of the shelves I built for the new shelf layout. I didn't clean up for the pictures, so please excuse the remaining mess. The layout will go on top of the ends sticking up in the air. Plans at this point (blessed are the flexible) are for an around the room double track main, with an industrial switching section along the back walls. The center T-bone section will be the classification yard, loosely modeled on Bartsow. The basement is odd-shaped, so snaking the layout along the walls is a little tricky. Well, here are the first pics, FWIW...
The basement is fairly small so you gotta do what you gotta do to get something to run those intermodal and coal trains! By the way, the weather is gorgeous here - just perfect for a photo session along the Moffat Line - thought you needed to know that!
Here are a few HO cars I kit-bashed for my Dad. These started out as standard Athern cars but I had fun slicing and dicing.
Looking good! Looks like your making the best of the space, and I can't wait to see an intermodal leaving Barstow and heading out onto the mainline.
Well, OK, I'll jump into this thread- since I got a new digital camera from the family, I've been field-testing it. So, for your viewing pleasure, are the following pics of Frisco motive power in HO. Remember, these are the first shots I've taken, so I'm still on the learning curve: Frisco diesel road power awaiting the call to duty on my HO scale SLSF Spring River Subdivision, Monett, MO SD45 900 with two UP diesels, same layout. This is a Rail Power Products shell on a milled SD45 chassis. Still need paint on the handrails.. The UP power is part of a pool arrangement that sees Frisco power on the UP system. E8A 2020 (Big Red) restored to service, in the paint scheme the Good Lord intended on an E-unit. Frisco GP7 533, in full black & yellow "cat's whiskers" livery, switching on a branch line in the Ozarks. The model is a Front Range GP7- I have another FRP GP7, in red & yellow.
Some more power on the Spring River Sub: Texas, Oklahoma & Eastern GP40 D12, a long way from home rails, waits to be used as part of the power consist of an outbound Frisco freight. This is an Atlas/Roco GP40 I modified and decaled with Herald King decals. Oklahoma & North Eastern RS3 200 and caboose 1, waiting for the crew of this freelanced shortline to come back from lunch to pick up its interchange cars & head back towards Miami, OK, its home base.
ALRIGHT!!! FINALLY some FRISCO in numbers on the Foto Fun scene!! Awesome! heh I'll join in as soon as I get a photo-worthy module built. Best Regards, -Mike
Charlie, Thanx fer the kind words. As for the TO&E diesel, I lived in Hugo, OK when I built that model, as the TO&E was just 25 miles down the road in Valliant. Their cool paint job was impressive to me, and since Frisco interchanged with TO&E at Valliant, I felt impelled to do at least one engine. A lot of TO&E cars are seen on Kiamichi RR (ultimate successor of this line), the outbounds loaded with paper from the Valliant paper mill. The O&NE is a freelanced shortline based on the former Northeast Oklahoma, which ran between Miami, OK and Columbus, KS, serving the lead & zinc mines in the area. My O&NE operates what was the Miami Branch (and I run Frisco engines now & then). Now if I can find that 44-tonner, finish up those GP15-1s, and get the coal train loaded & running, I'll have some more Frisco shots fer ya! ANd I'm repainting my S2 into the old NEO colors, albeit with Frisco letteing (which they had after the NEO merger). WHen it's done, I'll share it here. Since I only have two Santa Fe and two UP diesels apiece on the layout, it's safe to say my layout's pretty much a Frisco layout (as the Good Lord intended )
Here is one of D&RGW 3156 (HO) at Limpia Crossing. This area has been in drought and is particularly dry and dusty. Bryant
Just walked in the door from Australia; about 20 hours of travel. More on all the trains and the great time I had there with the TB guys. For WNFF, here is an SP GP40X I made a few years ago. It is on a Kato GP50 mechanism with a concor SD45 long hood. Most of the details are scratchbuilt. The GP40X was probably intended to be a GP45 as it does have the SD45 radiators. Espee had four. I took pictures of them in Delores Yard in 1993 or so. ATSF and UP had some, but I am not sure how many. Anyway, Espee bought SD40s instead. I think it had 3500 hp which is 875 hp per axle. That was the highest horsepower per axle of any engine at the time. From Richard Percys Espee Modelers page: My model: Now, off to check the other WNFF pictures. Happy Holidays to all. [ 26.
