To kick off the Friday the Thirteenth edition, here is an N scale Kato Mikado with a different tender. The tender came off of an old MRC 2-8-4 that has been lowered, put on Con Cor Commonwealth trucks and had the coal bunker plated over.

Following, please find a poor resolution of a picture scanned from today's New York Times. It shows the collapse of a retaining wall along the Hudson River near the George Washington Bridge- Or does it?

Nobody was killed or injured, by the way.

Random stone retaining wall available through Woodland Scenics.
Trees (one in road and two planted at top look suspiciously like WS armatures and ground up and glued foliage from WS.
InstaRoadbed from Midwest Supplies (I think) for the highway
Hudson River looks quite a bit like two part high gloss epoxy coated with acrylic matte medium gel to take off some of the reflection and to add texture to the water.
WS fine green and green blend ground cover for upper right flat areas.
    Kitbashed Lunde Studios buildings.
Faller people painted as police and fire personnel.
    Vehicles by Mini.
Lamp posts by New Jersey outfit, the name of which escapes me.
Talus by WS and dirt was obtained from field trip to site modeled.
    Deadfall from garden twigs.

    Mark--

I needed a good laugh today, and you certainly provided it! Thanks!

Russ has used a method to display his photo, plus a larger version with more detail. This, of course, leads me to try. The full size is BIG.

I think this is the way we can show all the details in our photos without running into the horizonal scrolling problems.

Here's the code I used. The parentheses "( )" have to be changed to square brackets for it to work.

You guys have such cool layouts. One of these days when I can get a good sized room to myself...... [IMG] My latest additions to the railroad. First a great e-Bay buy of an Atlas SD-35 in SP. [IMG]

Here she is, helping a trio of Tunnel Motors out of the tunnel and up the grade.

Then, while I was in my LHS today I saw this, a very cool looking car. The roof is what makes it impressive. [IMG] The roof walks are really fine detail.

You know, a Friday the 13th WEFF should be pics of derailments, accidents, people walking under ladders... and such!

    Anyways, I digress.

Here's my assignment this weekend (from the weekend plans thread):

...to fill these up with stuff. And I'm taking suggestions. One will be some sort of "camel" looking load - for Grey One.

p.s. the horses and cows that you see in the two gondolas in the first row will NOT stay [IMG]

    Great looking locomotive!

    Mark
    Thanks for the chuckle!

    Pete
    Nice looking scene!

    Paul
    Great looking train!

    Chad
Great pictures! The boxcar does look cool!

    Mike
Nice collection of gondolas and hoppers! Looks like you have your work cut out for you.

    Bob
Great shots. I love the detailing on the locomotives.

I’ll start my weekend contribution off with a display of my newest EBay winnings. These are all Athearn 50’ flat cars with twin trailers.

First up is a B&O flat car.

As you can see I need to change out the hook & horn couplers. Also the brake wheel is missing. The worst item is one of the coupler boxes must be replaced. Since I would like to other upgrades to the car this things are trivial.

Next up is a SP flat car.

Then we have a Santa Fe car.

Lastly is a Reading flat car.

I have a lot of upgrading to do.

    Looks good everybody.

Tom...I got tired of upgrading inaccurate Athearn ofkits, so I now buy Accurail (with a little work), Red Caboose and am looking at Westerfield kits.

As for my weekend, I painted a GP30, weathered 6 cars and added details to a 50' flat car. I work all day tomorrow and Sunday so I've done about all I can do.

I'll try to get pics up at some point.

    Great looking stuffeveryone.
The embankment that gave way caused all kinds of traffic tie ups as well as evacuation of a building and neighboring playground.

As I fill out my rolling stock roster, I need ice service reefers for some of the industries on my layout. I decided to keep these reefers captive and name them for my own railroad. These are Concor PFE refers renamed/renumbered for local service. I try to make each one individual to show the austere financial condition of the home road. It is a "paint as you can" policy. Man! WNFF is slow this weekend! :(

My internet is stuck on 28800 bps, so things are really slow here. ;)

Russell, that is a great tender kitbash. It really looks nice! [IMG]

acsxfan1: I see the smoking NS diesel. Lots of smoke!! Nice pics. Notice that the three engines are all elephant style. I think that is unusual, unless NS runs long hood forward, too. I know they used to.

    Hi, all,

Busy week at Pacific Coast Region NMRA convention in Concord, Calif.

Haven't had time to organize all my photos shots and layout tours.
Will post more next week if I've time to organize.

However, here's one that I squeezed off on the "Yosemite Short Line" freelance On30 modular layout, cute!

    Take care, all!

Great work folks...as usual an inspiration to continue on in spite of a life outside of trains.

Working on scenery again, still, is it ever done? Did some work on the small team track, saw the idea of the earth ramp from another member...so [IMG] :D :D :D :D

And as an aside to the inside life...I had opportunity to chase the SPS700 out of Portland, OR on Saturday. For those that want to look at a little Steam...my railimgaes album under Steam. Enjoy.

Here're my two weathered hoppers. I used at first dullcote, second a layer of chalk, sprayed some earth and at last, of course, another dullcote.
Together with weathering these hopper got weight from lead instead steel. I use Kadee magnets!
