He already did... engine air system failure post on black smoke here Damn, I did learn something from them classes
Long overdue, but a 2-month-old in the house seems to occupy a ton of my time! Light helpers drift down the 3% back to Minturn, thru Mitchell, CO's huge, scenic s-curve, with Colorado's tallest peaks in the background:
I usually overlook modern vehicles, until I hit the "kitbash/upgrade the wheels" craze...now nothing is safe!!!! I started with a Boley Red Dumptruck. All I wanted here was the frame and the bed, the cab being out of mode for my era. So I removed the screw and popped it into a pile of about 6 Internaltional cabs that I have...perhaps good for a flatcar load fo the modern people, or a junk yard...who knows. this move gives me the more advanced wheels then those in the Jordan Kit, which look like they are probably safer too. \ I then pulled out an old Old, In an envelope not a Box, Jordan Mack Cab. It was an older model, with a Stakebed model, molded in something called Tenite II. Anyhow, it quickly met the knife. I Chose to maintain the Boley Cab steps, while shoeing in the fenders...which have to be formed. The boley frame is obviously not a chaindrive system, so obviously, somewhere along the line, this truck was rebuilt. In looking at some prototypes, I noted that the windsheild is not a simple plate, so I painted in the window frames. I also noted the wheels are typically painted while the rims are not, so I did that too. I added a Pair of Lollipop mirros from Plano Model Products. And then, since this was an older Jordan kit, it lacked the newer headlights, so I crafted some using a technique I learned from the genious who is building a Pueblo Roundhouse interior over on the N scale forum. If you have not seen that thread, you should RUN and see it. I don't CARE if it is N scale!!! I thinkthat is all...After I finished, I discovered Boley has a Green Dump Truck...but...Oh Well!!! its NOT a Mack!!! The original Mack truck was a 7.5 ton truck...so I suppose this is about a 7.5 ton dump truck. did a lot of surgery, and then... Only thing that sucks about this kind of modeling is that I started today near 10:00, and I didn't finish until about 9:00, so it is a long process, and mainly a lot of painting, and repainting. Thankfully, the acrylic drys super fast, and canbe handled while set and not show fingerprints. [ May 16, 2005, 03:07 AM: Message edited by: Benny ]
Here's another truck project: A removeable load of branches and sticks in the back of a stake-bed truck. Ultra tedious. There was a new law passed on my pike that only weathered vehicles are now allowed to operate. So, I dullcoated and weathered about 30+ trucks and cars. The photo shows unweathered units on left and weathered units on right.
Well, with all my travels, progress on the layout is slow. Most of the cork is laid. Here are a few pics:
Great stuff guys, Bob I wondered where that car had gone to. I used to see those all the time . This is of my roundhouse I am working on, boy this has been a tough project, wiring painting, weathering. I wonder If I will ever get it done. the next few are from around the layout since i am new , I figured I would share these this week
Bob: Welcome to TB. Very nice looking town. Nice roundhouse, too. Hope we can see more of the construction.
Nelson: Welcome to Trainboard. Your photo's look great. That car was found somewhere near the red rock country of Southern Utah near St. Georges. It was also spotted in NE Arizona and SE Utah. The JJJ&E found the car on an abandoned siding and was immediately designated for regular service. Stay cool and run steam....
The part of a roundhouse that takes up som much room is the rook. Cover it with a mountian, or a plain in you second layouer, poof, you have room for a tunrtable
Thanks guys, I think I have found a place where I feel welcome. Unfortunately due to circumstances beyond my control nearly all modeling will be put on hold until my wife starts feeling better. As of this morning she is on strict order to stay in bed until things improve, otherwise we will loose our soon to be engineer. My wife told me I can work on my trains after the kids are in bed if I have the energy. I just doubled the lighting in my train room so at least I wont be working in the dark when I get to work.
