I guess I can kick off this topic with another shot of the Richmond Cotton Oil plant on my NTRAK modules. Had a little fun with photo shop on the background.
Good photo to start with Russ, i just added trucks to 4 new Rock Island Boxcars that I received in the mail during the week. I won then in an Ebay auction and now have 8 Rock Island pieces of rollingstock. Only a few more to get then I'll have a decent sized Rock Island Unit train.
Y'all may have heard me talking about revising and doing work on the layout, but I haven't posted any photos lately. This is some of what I have done. This is my revised trackage at the AD&N Shops. The spur heading to the left is where the engine shed will go when I get it built. The track with the caboose is the caboose/RIP track. The track with the box cars is the cleanout track. This is Pile Yard looking west. This is where pulpwood and woodchips are unloaded and piled . Pile Yard looking northeast. Looking west again. In this view you can see how I revised the industrial spurs to eliminate the switchbacks that I used to have. You can see the diamonds that I added to uncomplicate the switching moves. The tank cars are on the chemical plant spurs. The green woodchip hopper is on the chip loading track at the plywood mill location. You can also see in these photos how I used sheet roadbed to change the height of my track above ground level. Finishing that is the current project that I am working on. I am using foam pad that goes underneath laminate flooring to finish the rest of the layout landscaping. It is the same thickness as the roadbed and thanks to the "Honey do" project of installing new flooring in the kitchen and the dining room last weekend, I have plenty. Looking north from above the shop.
RIS, always quality from you. Great work. Colonel,, ya need some SOO , but I will cut ya some slack. Tad, or can I call ya Top. I like your pics always give me ideas. Here are my two pics, These are the trees Leann , her children and I made following the Colonel's article. They came out nice!! Well that is it for me. Adios Wyatt
Russell Nice looking plant! Paul Great looking train! Tad The yard looks great! Wyatt Great shots! Feels like you are railfanning the line!
Wow nice work!!!! Ok... here's some new pic's from me still trying to get things to look right [ August 27, 2005, 10:09 AM: Message edited by: up mike ]
All the photos look great guys! They show more than words, since we see different things each time we look at them. It would take pages and pages to fully "paint a word picture" of any one photo.
Tompm, that is still my favorite module. Still the best one, I think. UPMike, nice elevated curve...very nice, indeed! Good pics, too. Colonel, nice RI cars. The trains is getting there. Also, thanks for the tip on repaint cars. I posted some this week. TAD, nice layout and a lot of work there. Do you now have all the AD&N cars the railroad ever owned? I thought that was one of your goals. [ August 27, 2005, 06:40 AM: Message edited by: sapacif ]
Thanks to Hemiadda, I was able to acquire some covered hoppers to use the Colonel's method of repaint. Also, thanks to Jason for the Tamiya masking tape. Maybe I should use Australian paint schemes for these?? Here is one from my own home road: - Here is a Texas Grain Company solution to the seasonal shortage of grain hoppers in the midwest USA: I used a rattle can to spray the paint as it is faster. I now don't recommend doing that. After the paint dried, I had to use a no. 600 grit sandpaper to thin the paint. I have two more to repaint; not sure what to do with them yet. Maybe a GACX or NAHX or something. Suggestions are welcome but not always adhered to.
Russell, Nice work! Paul, your Rock equipment looks great. The MoPac units are Atlas GP38s with an MT caboose. I have quite a bit of MoPac and Rock equipment since they both interchanged with the AD&N in real life and do so on my layout. Wyatt, the trees came out really nice. Yeah, you can call me Top. That brings back a lot of memories. I lived in your neck of the woods when they started calling me that. Tom, you always have cool trains. Mike, it's looking pretty right to me. John, those may be oldies, but they are goodies. Looking good, Alan. Flash, the patch jobs look good. The AD&N owned over 2000 cars, I just want to represent each type. I'm still working on it. I do want to model all of the diesels that they ever owned, that was only a total of 16 units. I'm trying to get the layout to a point that I can start working on that again.
There are some great shots this week guys - as usual Tom, I really like the weathering on your freight stock - one day mine will look as good (I hope!).
