I guess I can get this started. I have been running trains on the club layout all day so have been away. Bring out your photos and show us what you have. Here is an old one of my N scale modular layout. [ 07. November 2004, 00:33: Message edited by: r_i_straw ]
I have been so busy lately I haven't had a chance to do any modeling, but the other day at work I caught this Westbound CSX train with a Santa Fe GP60M in the consist, so I had to get mine out and snapped a new photo. The real one.... The model....
My first Foto Fun entry. A CP&E wheel car kitbashed from a Life-Like P2k Mathers Stock car that I majorly screwed up a long time ago. I just chopped off the roof and side and glued down spare rail and then old plastic wheels (as I gradually convert to metal wheels). Topped all that off with a nice coat of acrylic brown paint. FYI-->A new and better camera is on my christmas list.
Pat, I do not think that you screwed up that car at all! In fact, I like it! Don't sell yourself short Happy railroading! Russ
Here are some photo's of an easy project to do; adding flowers to your landscape: Stay cool and run steam.....
Here are a couple of pics with what I achieved ob Friday night, the first is a pic of my newly decaled hopper, you can click on the link to take you to each related topic My First Decaling Project The seocnd project that is almost completed is the MOPAC SD40's Detailing and painting a UP SD40 to a MOPAC Project Great pics so far guys, keep them coming.
Thank Ya Russ. It was the origional car that I messed up so I just converted it to the wheel car. Still need to get decals on it.
OC Engineer JD: Really looks good. I am standing by for those GP60s from Athern. Is the model a kitbash? Also, I suppose that the ATSF GP60 is rare now? Loco 1999, nice pictures . You are giving me the idea that the layout is very large. The scenery came out really nice!! PS 1790, how about a how-to post on the flowers. Especially the bluebonnets!! Loco 1999: Look at the difference on the colors on the SD7 pilot and the decals!! I am convinced now that it is not unusual. Colonel and others have been discussing all this paint/decal matching on another thread. I think that you just can't be sure. The colors vary even from batch to batch when they are from the same manufacturer. Very nice job on the SD7. Now I have to get something posted here.
(N Scale) Cotton Belt GP7 No. 304 in Daylight Paint. This was the only GP7 ever operated on the Espee System. It arrived in daylight colors, but was quickly painted into the black widow scheme. As an oddity on the Espee, it was never rebuilt and never renumbered. This is an old photo that I posted to show the striping. The top stripe in Espee lettering grey that is between the black roof color and the daylight red body is painted by masking with chart tape. If I can, I am going to go through that procedure today with a GP38-2 on another thread. Wish me luck!!
Thank Ya Russ. It was the origional car that I messed up so I just converted it to the wheel car. Still need to get decals on it. </font>[/QUOTE]I primarily model N scale but have some HO stuff that I have been tinkering with. One of the pieces is a cheap bachmann stock car. Your pic has inspired me to bash it into a MOW car. Happy railroading! Russ
I saw two yesterday in Rosenberg. Did not have my camera loaded at the time. One was repainted to BNSF colors. The two axle trucks almost look goofy after seeing three all the time.
I just finished detailing two ATSF SD-40's with MU hoses; Brass Trainline Airhoses; MU cables: MU housings; steam generators; Sinclair antenna;late style rotary beacons; side frame mounted bell; speed recorders and spare knuckle couplers mounted on trucks: Stay cool and run steam....
Bob, Those SD40's look superb and the turntable just finishes the whole xcene, who said you needed a layout of module to take realistic pictures
Bob...where did you put the other end of the cable from the speed recorder? Did you glue it to the frame? I have a speed recorder on my FT, but am worried that securing it might interfere with truck swing. Here's a shot of my WP GP40 and an old Con-Cor bay window that friend gave me years ago: I was over at Chuck's and he had some new, custom painted and detailed locos...more insiration to get modeling!
Colonel : Thanks for the comments on the SD-40's. I appreciate it. I have the layout already built, ; the JJJ&E. The new 3x4' module for the turntable and engine yard is in the planning stages. However, the new turntable that I finished acts as a small diorama for steamers and diesels... Stay cool and run steam....
John: I glued the wire from the speed recorder to the truck and then ended the wire just below the frame. At eye level the recorder wire looks like it goes into the frame itself. Secure the wire from the speed recorder on the FT to the truck frame itself. Stay cool and run steam.....
