Jan, really like the painting on the bridge and pilings - to my eye, gives it just the right "feel" of weathered concrete.

That is very nice. I didn't notice that at first.

Thanks folks! This thread always inspires me to do a bit better! I try to weather everything on the layout, so the fact you noticed means a lot!

    Thanks,

So I had found a Conrail caboose a little while back. Started out as Bachmann "trainset" version that looked like this:

Since I was trading this to another guy for some other rolling stock, I just couldn't let it go out the door looking like that...

Trimmed off the strange extra plastic bit under the shell, added the tank (some sprue, filed and painted), a toolbox (other side), took off the silly roofwalks and filled in the holes, did a patch job for the new owner, then detailed and made it look used and filthy.

PW&NJ boxcab 130 heads out to the main line to leave the caboose for pick up.

If I'd had a better selection of couplers, I would have lowered it a little more (did this on my non-existent budget). I'm using two washers between each truck and the frame, but if the new owner replaces the couplers, he can pull one washer and bring it down to more prototypical height. This was fun and I'm very happy with how it turned out.

Thanks Flash for getting this thread going the last two weeks while I was off gallivanting across the pacific northwest. I would log in every time I found free WiFi and really enjoyed seeing what everyone was up to. And thanks to everyone who has posted photos and comments to the tread. This is supposed to be fun and not a contest. Go ahead and post what you got. It is always fun to see layouts and projects in all stages of completion.
