The Santa Fe Ranger out of Houston bound for Chicago passes Richmond depot without stopping. The Santa Fe ran on track rights out of Houston to get to its own tracks in Rosenberg. This is a kit bashed N scale Arnold Rapido Pacific followed by two head end cars made with M&R brass sides.
Oooh! Very nice, Russell. Are you considering one of the Rapido Steam Gennies? I like your sky...very nicely rendered. The prairie setting is one with which I am familiar...brings back memories. Good show. Back to sepia and mallets for me.
Royalty at Black Butte It's 1948, and there's an air of excitement with "the Visit." But even royalty takes the hole for Shasta Daylight. Duchess of Hamilton, on the point of Royal Scot, patiently awaits its turn. Cover and article - N-Scale magazine, MAY-JUN 08 (with permission).
Lovely work on here. Mine's a view on my UK side of the table, a GWR 0-6-0 with a small string of wagons. Mike
First class, Mike. Really nice. How did you take the image? What distance, how did you manage to get the depth of field so deep?
Thanks Crandell. The camera is my Olympus C-750 UZ which is only 4mp but it works beautifully. I had it sitting on a raised grassy bank at the very front of the layout, and I guess it's about 3 feet to the backscene. The camera was set to the highest quality, its image sharpness was set to +5 [max] and the F setting was also set to its max of a mere 8. Also I added a touch of blue with the camera's colour/white balance settings.I don't know why, but for clarity it out performs my daughter's Fuji and my Dad's Kodak, both having higher megapixels and F stops than mine. I guess it's the lens. I make no claim of being an expert in that field. Now - how did you do the sepia? Mike
Here's Alaska GP49 on the rocks while we await some action at Tunnel 27: After not too long a wait, a UP manifest eases by old Tunnel 28, with a respectable SD70M leading: And further down grade at Tunnel 27:
Mike, find tucows or download.com and get them by googling "FastStone". FastStone is freeware that shouldn't take long to load on your computer, depending on your connection, and you can change images in the editing function from colour to black and white, or to sepia. You open an image full-screen size, then right click anywhere on the image. Scroll down to "edit" and click on that. A second drop-down menu opens with a whole bunch of features, including frames...such as the antique-looking one I have bordering my image. It really is a nifty program, easy to use. I balked a bit at the price, but felt it was worth it in the end. (har!) -Crandell
Secret Weapon: In the last of two photos of your layout, in the right-hand corner, there's a wire extending from the inside track. How do you intend to cover this. I'm nearing the wiring stage in building my N layout and I have no clue on how to "bury" the wires from the track to another location. Thanks for your help.
Just like I did here. Ballast. I have 6 locations around the layout with bus wires. The wires are soldered to the rails & go under the layout. The 1 wire is under the back truck of the E-8. I did this before I got sick. I plan to finish ballasting & the layout in about 1 1/2 years.
Just a thought but it would be sorta appropriate if someone were to post a shot of: Train 420 blowing smoke with a string of reefers in tow. on Sunday, April 20th.
This is my N scale scratch build rendition of a modern IHOP resturant. The four walls sat glued together on a shelf for the better part of a year. I have finally cleared off enough space on my workbench to move on with this project. Here is as far as I have gotten to date: I am still tweaking the roof color and may lighten it up a bit more: Next will come some of the outer building detail and the chimney.
