My first Southern Pacific train set. Marx tin plate 027. Not sure what the diesels are trying to be. FTs maybe? And the paint scheme looks kind of like the Golden State. However I had lots of fun running it.
This guys seems always at the ready for traffic at Brush Creek Junction... Have a great week all! Take Care, -Bob T.
Here is what I managed to complete this week! First, is a IMRC 50' Double Door PS-1 Boxcar kit, I started out with a Single Door kit as I needed centered doors for the model I was building. I removed the door guides from the body and installed new ones from Evergreen Plastic. Added A-Line sill steps then painted with Scalecoat II Boxcar Red #2 and lettered with Herald King Decals. Car was orginally equipped with racks for transporting automobiles, after the introduction of auto racks, the racks were removed and a lining installed on 120 of the cars for the hauling of bagged qypsum out of Southard, OK, which is why the cars classification was XP. Next and old AHM Covered Hopper where I removed all the cast on ladders and grabs and replaced the ladders with plastic ones from the scrap box and wire grabs. Also added wire airlines for the brakes and main air line. Finally added a Plano running board, a-Line sill steps and new more accurate hatches. Painted with Scalecoat II MOW Gray paint and lettered with Mark Vaughn decals. The M&StL acquired these 3219CF covered hoppers to move grain from the elevators to final destinations. A Pair of Rapido FL9's with a local passenger heading into New York City! Picture taken on the Strongsville club layout. Have a great weekend! Rick Jesionowski
#2381 gets a (very) small push to help it up the steep grade connecting the club layout's two levels.
@r_i_straw: those loco's are the "renowned" FA/F7/FT submarine types. RS's! (Say it like it sizzles!) @rjthomas909, is it possible to come and live in your layout? @dti406, great work. Great info. @SecretWeapon, great interchange point. @jwaldo, unusual switchers.
Oooops ! I have a lot of work to do like add sound decoder/speaker. The bottom 1/2 of chassis is on its way to Kelley Duford for driver replacements. Should run like a champ. BTW, does anyone have a hint/suggestion on how to solder feed wires to the motor brush caps without melting the plastic. Also, does KATO offer number boards for different units as I would like to paint this into the sold black #4433 version. Just what I need is another project to go with my GS-1 and AC-9. Oh well, something to keep me looking forward ! Be well !
We were waiting for the South Jersey Local to come through and he was a few hours late tonight. The local is being headed by Pennsylvania-Reading Seashore Lines Baldwin S-12 (Bowser Executive Line). The local was late enough he went through the station as the commuter from Tuckahoe was arriving in the form of an PRSL RDC (Rapido).
Well I have been working on this project since November..... A Rio Grande bay window caboose. No, the Grande never rostered any. But in my world when they ordered their cabooses from International Car, they ordered 5 bay windows. Numbered 01526 - 01530. I hope you like it.
After burning a lot of grey matter, you probably could smell the sawdust burning, I figured out my fix for the motor feed wires without soldering to brush cap. Please do not look at the quality of the soldering as I will most likely re-solder both leads. The sloppy chassis milling was not my effort. I have taped the piece on to show how it will fit up against the cap. I made 2 obviously and will color code where they connect in tender. Be well !
A couple years ago I wanted to build 2 more QA&P lettered GP7's , as there were 3 GP7's the Frisco did letter for the QA&P. Well, I was trying to get some undec ones to start with, which was a challenge. I finally found one so I buys it, when it gets here I open the package and dangit, its a GP9!! Didn't want that at all, I contact the seller, she didnt want it back, I got a refund. The person it seems was trying to sell off someones collection and they put a GP9 shell in the box with GP7 details, handrails and all. I havent built a BN loco in a while so why not. I happened to have most all the parts needed to complete the loco. I did have to substitute 1 fan tho. My BN decals are 20+ years old but they worked OK. So here tis the mistake BN 1954. I need another locomotive like Custer needed more Indians.
I couldn't buy a girl figure that was sitting down and wearing 1950s attire. I wanted her to be wearing a circle skirt, so I made her skirt out of clay and painted it. Came out nice, I think. BTW just ask her!
