A friend of mine wanted me to paint up some of the Kato Super Chief cars in Texas Special livery for him. The observation, diner, lounge and Palm sleepers are close enough to stand in but I am using brass sides to do the RPO/Baggage and coaches. Here is the first installment. I had to do a little modification to the tail end, add a roof antenna and some extra number boards.
This is what I was working on this week. How do you get fire trucks this big: to fit in a building made for fire trucks this big? You move the back wall of the building farther back of course. From the front it all looks normal.
SNFF 2009 01 23 Old SNFF post from over 2 years ago, a repainted and brass handrails custom Minitrix FM H12-44, painted for me by Randgust and remotored with a Hans Starmans kit (Swiss-made Maxon motor): The Richmond Controls lighting package installation is this loco is documented at : http://home.comcast.net/~j.sing/Richmond_Controls_EZ26_Install_Minitrix_FM_H12-44_page1.html Here's couple sample pictures of the install: The end result: More on the loco itself can be seen at: http://home.comcast.net/~j.sing/Santa_Fe_FM_H12-44_Zebra_Stripe.htm Have a good week, all!
Old Geeps and Pickups The old power is assigned to the most unglamorous jobs. But the old pickup could fetch a pretty penny and a lot of memories...
:thumbs_up:Very nice Russell. :thumbs_up:It looks like you started with an Athearn car and went from there. The bridge shot with the drum head is great!
Grampy, nice shot. You seem to have your photo technique down. Larry, I like the layout. I plan to do a somewhat similar engine facility, and wanted to know how you made the sanding towers? I don't have much scenery but took this shot. The VO1000 is a bit over weathered but it reflects effects of the sand blasting from the wind in Colton Ca. This loco has been this way for some time but never sealed with dulcoat, is it possible to wash some of the water based weathering off?
Been working on the mountain, this is as far as I got yesterday. A big white blob in the corner. :mwink: Then I reassembled my gallows and installed it on the turntable. I still need to add the planking to the other half and outside ring, cover the shed with wood, scenic and add details.
This is a retired vinegar car from Satokuma Vinegar Works on the BearCatRR (a takeoff of the HO FSM Sassen Vinegar Works Kit) and will soon be at home on the RL&F of the Frisco Kid. It even smells like vinegar.
Wow very nice Russ. I have a great need for the Texas Special.....just no $ to do it. How much are the decals and are they still available? Thanks.....
Great pictures All. Back from the show, this weekend was a FREMO meeting. We have had fun. Here's one picture from my friend Peter's "Joevalley": You see more pictures at my pictures at Unna meeting. Wolfgang
I really have enjoyed all your contributions this week. A nice variety, as usual. I have to acknowledge, especially, Wolfgang's colleague's image just above. That is stupendous! Wow! I haven't been very active in this thread, nor in generating images, for some time. Other priorities. Still, I managed to have some fun setting this one up and finding one image that stood out from all the ho-hum ones I took a few nights ago. With the caboose safely towed behind the auxiliary water tender, a Y6b Mallet is pushing from the rear to get a 5000 ton cut of coal hoppers up the 3% grade shown here. At the head end, another Mallet is struggling, doing its part.
The SD45 is done except for a few minor things which I may or may not address...... The gap between the long hood and the cab in the above shot being one of the things I want to address..... The wiring to make it all work....left to right... Ngineering Ditchlight simulator Custom built momentary contact (Styrene sheet with PB tabs) to switch lights from constant to alternating (press on horn to acctuate) Ngineering DC Power unit to power number boards independent of direction. Under DC power unit scrap of original light board to use as a solder pad to bring it all together and power the headlight and tail light. Brass handrails with Gold Medal stantions. BLMA Fans and Grabs...may still add wipers. Kato fuel tank and plow. Scratch built, socketed and replaceable ditchlights. Short hood is a resin casting from and Atlas SD to get the ratchet brake detail. Fine stainless mesh radiator grilles. Plus a lot of other work that would give away what it started as. More pictures here: http://www.trainboard.com/railimages/showgallery.php/cat/1767 This has been fun but it's time to get back to steam.
