I have been playing around adding details to my Sunset Limited. To create a blunt end sleeper, I modified a Con Cor 10-6 sleeper. I used parts from a Rowa observation car, Tomar drum head and scratch built a light cluster. To pick up track power, I modified some Kato trucks off of some CB&Q cars where half the side frame is missing to fit under the full skirts. I laminated side frames from the American Limited #8100 trucks on to them after filing off most of the old side frames. I used a white LED to iluminate the drum head instead of the bulb that comes with the kit. I am waiting to pick up a Richmond Control Marse light circuit for the center light.
Nice job of detailing, Russ. It's follow the leader, as the semi ascends the hill, while GP7 no.8577 rumbles across Hammer Creek.
I sure like your passenger car scenes, Russell. You do such patient and meticulous work to get small but important details. DJ, I could be in another truck following the cars behind the truck up front. Very realistic. You do great bridge-work, too. There is no way to tell it is a model. For my WPF this time, a Class J 4-8-4 slips quietly into a dark tunnel. Good thing there was clearance for me to stand aside!
I dunno about you, but if I were driving the red sedan at the tail of that line, I'd be stewing in my own juices, being stuck behind a slowpoke truck! Here's a "riding platform" crossing the Missouri River in Great Falls, MT: And some power at the GN diesel house:
A tunnel motor leading a north bound has to wait in the siding for a south bound to clear before proceeding out of Victorville. The Cemex plant and track full of hoppers makes a nice backdrop.
Here's one from me I'm hoping you guys haven't seen here before (I've lost all track by posting to too many forums!). NYW&B
That's a great looking crossing. I didn't realize Blair Line made such an animal, gotta get some.:tb-cool:
That is a nice crossing! Crandell, great work, John, love those SP units, and that NYW & B shot is just too cool!
Very nice, NYW&B! Did you take that pic outdoors? Also, was one of your pics in MR's Trackside Photos in the April issue? Looked great!
Thanks Hytek, just one thing though I did make some modifications. The original "straight from the pack" grade crossing was 1 plank strip narrower in the middle. I thought this looked to narrow so I added an extra plank strip. If you have a lot of wide flanges, you may want to leave it the way it is. Wait... did I write "Plack strip on the photo? woops, I mean Plank strip.:tb-confused: Just your info then!
*Great shots*, everybody. Russ, really enjoy your detailing and thx for starting this thread every week. COverton, great creative angle on your photo. Spidge - lyour SP's looking good, saw your Railimages album and it's nice progress. Smallbore3p, that's a great little truck, and sharp photos too. Thx to everybody else as well . For me, this week's photos are 3 shots of a short N scale Santa Fe local freight, displayed at last weekend's NMRA Pacific Coast Region, Coast Division March 2009 Meet. N scale FM H12-44, custom painted/detailed by Randy Gustafson: More info on the repainting/redetailing of this Minitrix loco can be found at: http://home.comcast.net/~j.sing/Santa_Fe_FM_H12-44_Zebra_Stripe.htm and Randgust's contact info for custom painting: Custom N Scale Models and Conversion Kits Two Santa Fe SFRD reefers, that I acquired off eBay, wonderfully painted and detailed by the previous owner: And an overall view of the train: Also, an added bonus: ----------------------- NMRA Pacific Coast Region, Coast Division, is fortunate to have Mark Schutzer among our members. He did a great clinic in our Coast Division meet last weekend, on installing DCC in locos, especially in brass locos, have a look: http://markschutzer.com/Brass_Clinics/InstallingDecoders2009.pdf In case you're thinking, where have I heard this 'Mark Schutzer' name before? ..... Mark is also well known for award-winning brass locos, which run on DCC as well as they look. Mark's got a great web site at: Mark's Web Site Also, Mark is well known to worldwide NCE DCC users as one of the primary persons responsible for the NCE DCC Radiocab 1.5 upgrade, which significantly improved the NCE DCC Radiocab to the level of top performance that it has today. In my humble opinion, while NMRA like any human organization has its 'considerations', one of the great values of NMRA for me has been providing a venue as a model railroader to meet many friendly, wonderful other modelers, and I learn more information about our great hobby in a day than usually ever learn by myself in a month. Enjoy. ------------------------ Have a good week, all.
Man John that is NICE! Makes me pine for my old Santa Fe layout....hmmmm....maybe I coould rebuild it
